A interfaith service
Honoring the legacy of Martin
Luther King , Jr. was held
on Tuesday January 22 at
the chapel area of JFKIAT
Termonal 4. Open to the
airport community, Pastor
Dabee, Rabbi Korenblit and
Father Piasta shared words
of tribute from one of our
country’s great leaders.
The Rabbi spoke to the
modest gathering and said “
We here represent thousands
if not millions of people in
our country” referring to
the ideals in which Dr, King
esposed during his lifetime
and of those at the service.
Pastor Dabee asked
“how long, not long,“in
his community litany of
inspiration ;referring to
following the idea of Dr,Kin.
The psstor asked rehtorically,”
If i cannot do great thinga I
can do small things, can we
fi nd ways to do small things
greatly”.
Rabbi Korenblit related the
history of Jews’ oppression
to black oppression and. The
Rabbi read from Dr, Prince,
a Jew and activist in the
civil rights movement who
addressed crowds about
the shame of inequaity and
injustice which makes a
mockery of the great Aerican
idea. He said Jewish history
began in slvery, and continued
in some form.

4 AIRPORT V OICE, FEBRUARY 2019
RThe Rabbi said that
our modern history begins
with the proclamation of
emancipation, It is not just
for these rasons, not just
sympathy nor compassion for
the black people of America
that motivates us It is a
soladarity of our own painful
experience that motivates
us. He said it is a moral
more concept of collective
responsibiity for preservation
of mans dignity and integrity
to defy bigotry. Bigotry and
hatred are not our most urgent
problems. The most tragic and
shameful is silence. America
must not become a nation of
onlookers. Not just for black
America but all Americva for
tthe sake of ou chilcdren.
Father Piasta spoke
about the nature of nonviolence
and the other world
leaders Ghandi, Mandella,
and Thoreau, who too, were
assiniated being symbols
of nonviolent revolution.
Father drew out how we all
be like theses great prophets.
We can be like a prophet
when we ask the questions,
“ what am I standing for,
what will you sacrifuce or
do somethng. We each can be
a porphet. We can act more
like a prphet if we can can
understandint what we have
in common, and by asking
how do I treat the person
next to me?
Pastor Dabee, concluded the
serviceby invoking the spirit
of Dr,King and challenging
us to begins the service in
the spirit of Dr, King to to our
community. “Go in peace.”
In a move that would
go head-to-head with
Norwegian, and legacy
carriers fl ights to England,
JetBlue appears to making
plans to fl y to that country as
its fi rst direct transatlantic
destination.
Said Robin Hayes,
“Coming off an incredible
2018, I’m very excited about
what the new year will bring
for JetBlue and all of us as
crew members. 2019 will be
a year of big decisions and
moves for us. In 2019 we will
announce our decision on
the Long Range version of
the A321. This aircraft could
open up new and exciting
markets for us”.
This decision about
possible fl ying across the
pond was raised at the JFK
Chamber of Commerce
last year where President
Joanna Geraghty was
asked about this possibility.
While not affi rming nor
denying, she alluded to this
possibility.
Hayes also said, “Our
network strategy is all
about strengthening our
focus cities and in order
to fl y to some of the top
unserved destinations from
Boston and New York (like
London), we need a longerrange
aircraft.”
Services to London
would likely launch from
both Boston and New York
JFK, A spokesperson for
the airline said: “We have
not committed to the LHR,
or to adding Europe to
our network, but that is
certainly an environment
that JetBlue competes well
in.”
JetBlue’s Mint cabin
is considered to be more
comfortable than other
airlines in the price class
with lie-fl at beds in closed
suites.
Comparing to
Norwegian, in economy,
JetBlue’s spacing is
generous, with “coach”
seats offering 33 inches of
pitch and 18 inches of width,
compared to Norwegian’s
economy of 31-32 inches
of pitch and 17.2 inches
of width. Easyjet, which
operates the A320 - the
smaller version of the A321
- offers 29 inches of pitch
and 18 of width. JetBlue
also offers free Wi-Fi on its
flights.
Hayes has said it would
not be a race to the bottom
in terms of fares and that
JetBlue would focus on
“premium fares”, adding
that he admired Norwegian’s
successes: “People said it
could not be done, I think
they are really a pioneer.”
Governor Phil Murphy recently
visited Newark Liberty International
Airport and stressed the urgent need
for the Port Authority of New York and
New Jersey to act quickly to fund a new
AirTrain system.
Currently, AirTrain moves about
33,000 riders per day between Newark
Airport terminals, parking lots, car
rental facilities, to public transportation
and the Northeast Corridor Rail Link,
transporting more than 11 million
riders annually.
However, the system is nearing
the end of its useful life and is beyond
capacity constraints. The current
AirTrain also interferes with plans for
future locations of terminals, roadways,
and airfi eld taxi lanes.
“The current AirTrain was built
over 20 years ago, and the system simply
cannot function as it should, all-toooften
leaving passengers delayed and
airport personnel unable to get to work
on time,” said Governor Murphy. “With
the development of the new Terminal
One underway, we must continue to
build infrastructure that can meet

the world-class standards the new
terminal will bring to Newark. That is
why it is critical that the Port Authority
leadership and Board of Commissioners
act quickly to fund a replacement
AirTrain that can meet the evolving
needs of Newark Airport.”
“The AirTrain is an integral link
in a successful regional mobility
solution,” said New Jersey Department
of Transportation Commissioner Diane
Gutierrez-Scaccetti. “A modern, reliable
air train connecting rail service on the
Northeast Corridor to airport terminals
gives travelers effi cient travel options
that reduce the need for single vehicle
travel to and from one of the busiest
airports in the country.”
“Newark Liberty International
Airport is one of New Jersey’s greatest
economic engines and a gateway to the
state and metropolitan region,’’ said Port
Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole. “The
Port Authority is committed to ensuring
the airport’s facilities are world-class
to meet passengers’ 21st century needs
and expectations.” said Port Authority
Executive Director Rick Cotton.
