Bogus investigation
A crook swindled a W. 13th Street
man out of $3,000 on Feb. 14 by impersonating
a Social Security investigator
and demanding he send
money in gift cards in order to complete
his so-called investigation.
The criminal called the man demanding
the money at around 3 pm,
according to the victim, who lives
between Avenue T and 86th Street.
Long-ago crime
A thief charged $3,800 to a 66th
Street man’s credit card at some
point after Oct. 8 of last year, the
man reported to police on Feb. 11.
The man — who lives between
21st Avenue and Bay Parkway —
told police the theft occurred at
some point after noon on the October
day, and added that he had his
card the entire time.
Stay at school
A lout threatened a boy with a
pocketknife and stole his cellphone
on 25th Avenue on Feb. 11.
The incident occurred at 86th
Street just after 2:30 pm, when the
man approached the boy as he was
walking home from school and
fl ashed a pocketknife at him before
grabbing his phone and demanding
he hand over everything else he had
in his pockets, police said. The lout
then fl ed on 86th Street towards Bay
40th Street, according to the report.
Weird withdrawal
A crook stole more than $5,600
from an 81st Street woman by making
withdrawals from her bank account
on Feb. 8, the woman told police
four days later.
The incident occurred around
2:30 pm, when the woman — who
lives between 16th and 17th avenues
— received a notifi cation on
her phone informing her that there
were two unauthorized withdrawals
from her checking account, police
said.
Phone a friend
A scoundrel used an 84th Street
man’s personal information to open
up a cellphone account at a New Jersey
store and make purchases on his
credit card at some point after Jan.
31, the man told police on Feb. 12.
The incident occurred at some
point after noon on Jan. 31, according
to the man, who lives between
19th and 20th avenues and told police
that he had his credit card the
entire time.
Cash grab
A baddie stole a woman’s wallet
with $100 inside at the 25th Avenue
subway station on Feb. 12.
The theft occurred at the station
at 86th Street at around 8 am, when
the sneak stole the wallet after the
woman dropped it on the ground,
according to the report.

Mr. Knife guys
Cops are hunting for two crooks
who attempted to rob a man at knifepoint
at the 53rd Street subway station
on Feb. 13.
The victim told police he was
waiting for an R train at the station
near Fourth Avenue at 10:30
pm when one of the thieves pulled a
knife on him, but the victim made
a run for it and managed to escape,
while the would-be robbers boarded
a passing train.
Hate symbols
Police are searching for the vandal
who scrawled swastikas inside
the 15th Street subway station on
Feb. 17.
The delinquent drew the Nazi
symbol on a pillar at the station
near Prospect Park in orange spray
paint sometime after midnight.
Jeepers creepers
A thief looted a man’s 2008 Jeep
Grand Cherokee he parked on Fifth
Avenue on Feb. 16, taking electronics
and other valuables.
The victim told police he left his
car near 47th Street at 11 pm, and returned
the next morning to fi nd his
radio, sound system, dash cam, and
sunglasses were stolen.
Bad link
Cops arrested a 22-year-old man
for allegedly beating another man
with a chain on Fifth Avenue on
Feb. 16.
The arresting offi cer claims he
spotted the suspect whipping the
victim numerous times with the
chain near 50th Street at 12:40 pm,
and the suspect was arrested on a
felony assault charge.

Triple trouble
Cops arrested three teens for allegedly
trying to rob a taxi driver on
COURIER L 8 IFE, FEB. 22–28, 2019 M BR B G
W. 37th Street on Feb. 15.
The three girls, a 15-year-old
and two 16-year-olds, hailed a cab at
Stillwell Avenue to take them to the
corner of W. 37th Street and Mermaid
Avenue at 9:40 am, according
to cops.
When they arrived there, one of
the girls allegedly demanded the
driver hand over money and his
cellphone, but he resisted and one of
them allegedly punched him in the
back of the head and neck, causing
pain and swelling, before the trio
fl ed, police said.
Police caught up with the teens
at W. 36th Street and cuffed them,
according to the authorities.
Oldster knock-out
A brute knocked out a senior on
Mermaid Avenue on Feb. 17.
The 84-year-old victim told cops
that the bruiser struck him in the
face several times, causing him to
bleed, suffer from pain, and lose
consciousness, at W. 36th Street at
7:50 pm.
Botched robbery
Cops arrested three people for allegedly
robbing a Mermaid Avenue
drugstore on Feb. 8.
The two men and a woman allegedly
broke into the store between W.
23rd and W. 24th streets at 3 pm and
stole cash and a fl ash drive, according
to the authorities.
A witness fl agged down police
when he saw signs of forced entry at
the rear door of the store, said cops.
Offi cers uncovered surveillance
footage that showed the suspects
at the store, and then arrested the
three people, according to police.
Crookslist
A fraud scammed a man out of
thousands of dollars on W. 15th
Street on Feb. 7.
The victim posted an ad to rent
his room on Craigslist, for which
the hoaxer expressed interest in
and sent him a check for $4,350,
which he deposited at 9 am between
Neptune and Mermaid avenues, according
to the authorities.
The charlatan then backed out
of the deal and asked for his money
back, which the victim sent him online,
cops said.
The check later bounced back because
it was fraudulent, according
to police.

Big-bounty burglar
A malcontent robbed a woman’s
Shore Boulevard home on Feb. 11.
The villain came in to the home
near West End Avenue sometime between
7 am and 4:30 pm through the
locked fi re escape window and stole
cash, jewelry, a fur coat, as well as
an American and Israeli passport,
according to cops.
When the victim came home, the
front door of her apartment was unlocked,
she told cops.
Bag bagged
A robber ransacked man’s Emmons
Avenue home on Feb. 12.
The victim said he returned to
his home near Ford Street around
3:30 pm to fi nd his front door broken
and noticed that someone had taken
his expensive bag.
A neighbor living in the apartment
had heard loud banging and
went into the hallway to investigate
and found the baddie leaving the
place, police reported.
Masked bandits
Three masked goons attacked
and robbed a woman on Batchelder
Street on Feb. 2.
The victim was walking near Avenue
W at 6:30 pm when the dirtbags
yelled “Ma’am” at her and stuck
a hard object in her back, saying,
“Give me your money,” said cops.
One of the louts then snatched
her wallet from her pocket and told
her not to call the police before they
fl ed the scene, the authorities said.
Dubious delivery
A cur violently robbed a delivery
man at a Haring Street parking lot
on Feb. 14.
The victim was making a delivery
near Avenue X at 2:35 am when
the jerk pulled him out of his truck
and punched him in the face, causing
swelling and pain, said police.
The villain then took the man’s
phone and $700 from his jacket
pocket and fl ed towards Batchelder
Street, and then turned left towards
Avenue W in a blue garbage truck,
cops said.
Knifepoint robbery
Five ne’er-do-wells robbed two
teens at knifepoint on E. 16th Street
on Feb. 14.
The 17-year-olds were walking
from Avenue S towards Avenue T
at 7 pm when the group confronted
them, with one of the brutes showing
off a boxcutter, police reported.
The group then took the teens’
phones and wallets, said cops.
The robbers fl ed on Avenue S, police
