Call it good, caffeinated fun.
Ridgites got buzzed at the May 4
grand opening of the newest location of
a beloved neighborhood coffee chain.
Born-and-bred Ridgite Abdul Elenani
said his local roots inspired the
opening of the area’s third outpost of
Cocoa Grinder, located on Fourth Avenue
at 95th Street.
“I like Bay Ridge — it’s my hometown,”
said Elenani, who now calls
the distant land of Staten Island
home.
The party included plenty of coffee,
along with candy, face painting,
and balloons for the neighborhood’s
youngest coffee fi ends, who have a dedicated
place to play in the café’s indoor
play pen.
The opening marked the chain’s
13th location, a dozen of which are in
Kings County. Elenani, who started
the coffee company in 2013, said he
plans to open more locations in the
Borough of Churches, and attributes
his success to offering a combination
of good grub and drinks.
“It serves both purposes of good
coffee and good food,” he said.

city Public Design Commission, according
to Mayor’s Fund spokeswoman
Ashleigh Fryer, who added
that construction of the fi elds will
likely take place over the summer.
Fryer said the fi elds will vary in
size depending on the location, but
will be an average of 4,500 square
feet, or one-tenth the minimum size of
a professional soccer fi eld, according
to the standards set by the sport’s governing
body, the International Federation
of Association Football.
Offi cials behind the $3 million,
fi ve-year initiative aim to build another
30 fi elds throughout the city in
addition to the 20 they’ve already lain
down since announcing the scheme in
2016, Fryer said. Four of those fi elds
are in Kings County, but the green
spaces slated for Sodom by the Sea
will be the fi rst to arrive in southern
Brooklyn.
And the plan has locals’ support:
28 members of Community Board 13
voted unanimously in favor of the
measure, in an advisory capacity, at
its April 24 general meeting.
