The Bay Ridge Federal Credit
Union celebrated another
year of successes at the organization’s
annual meeting, held on
Wednesday, April 11 at the Bay Ridge
Manor.
The credit union — which was
founded in 1934 — “funds the American
dream,” according to Supervisory
Committee member
Charles Capetanakis,
through the loans it
gives to businesses
seeking to expand
and individuals
looking to make
home improvements,
pay for an education
or buy a home.
In 2017, according
to credit union President
Anthony Grigos,
the organization
made approximately 1,200 loans,
amounting to $28.6 million.
“The small loans,” Grigos stressed,
“are part of our identity as a credit
union. The small entrepreneur or
the immigrant family, like my own,
who came to this country with my
three-year-old self to start a new life,
turning to family friends and small
credit institutions
like credit
u n i o n s
to give the
helping hand.
In the same
manner, we
helped our
members for
the past 84 years.”
To make it even easier for customers
to take advantage of all the credit
union has to offer, it has also been
expanding its online capabilities,
Grigos said, including expanding
its presence on Facebook, Instagram
and Twitter. This past year, 17
percent of personal loan applications

originated online, he noted.
“We have invested in developing
our website and loan application
system to make applying online
much easier,” he went on, as well
as debuting the credit union’s new
mobile app.
“It represents a milestone into a
new ear for our credit union,” Grigos
enthused, “one that will reach to a new
generation of members bringing the
Bay Ridge Federal Credit Union to you.”
