Dangers Of LED Light Bulbs
Recently, I have been seeing articles
about how dangerous LED light is to
the health of your eyes. Being that this
type of light is everywhere I thought it
would be helpful to pass some of this
information on to you. Regular exposure
to LEDs, especially after sunset,
will contribute to sleep problems and
increase eye disease.
Of course, the healthiest light is
natural sunlight. Unfortunately,
most of us do not get enough natural
sunlight and worse we have replaced
incandescent light bulbs with LED
lights. The problem with LED’s is
that they emit excessive amounts of
blue wavelengths and their spectrum
lacks the healing and regenerative
properties of near infrared frequencies.
So, when you use LED’s you end
up with increased cellular damage
and decreased repair and regeneration.
The degeneration can cause agerelated
macular degeneration, which
is the primary cause of blindness
among the elderly.
Blue light also reduces your production
of melatonin which impedes sleep
and increases your risk
of insulin resistance
which raises your risk
of myopia. LED light
also affects your mitochondrial
function and
may exacerbate health
problems such as metabolic disorder
and cancer.
Generally speaking, your body’s
energy production involves not only
nutritional intake but also exposure
to certain wavelengths of light. This
is why sun exposure is so critically
important and why LED’s are best
avoided.
So, the news is not all bad. There
are many things you can do to protect
your eyesight. Start by replacing LED
bulbs with incandescent bulbs. In areas
where you spend most of your time,
such as your kitchen, dining room, living
room and bedroom, swap out the
LED’s for incandescents and leave the
LED bulbs for halls, basements, closets
and your garage where exposure is
minimal.
Get bright natural sunlight everyday.
Your pineal gland produces melatonin
roughly in approximation to the
contrast of bright sun exposure in the
day and complete darkness at night.
Darkness at night is as important as
bright sunlight during the day so be
sure not to have any light on in your
bedroom. Do not sleep with a nightlight
or the TV. Even the blue light
from your alarm clock can disturb
your balance of light. Blue light disturbs
your melatonin and melatonin is
needed for sleep.
If you use a computer, smartphone
or tablet, install blue light blocking
software like Iris or use amber colored
glasses that block blue light. This will
not only protect your eyes but it will
help with melatonin production which
will improve sleep quality.
Who would have thought just how
important light and darkness is to our
health.
