EmblemHealth, one of the
nation’s largest non-profi t

an affi liation with Bronx-

The affi liation with Bronx-

to the Bronx and affi liate our

affi liation with BronxDocs

community-based care is an

So, some dates yet again: Sunday,
March 10, St. Patrick’s Day starts at
St. Benedict for 9 a.m. Mass and 10
a.m. breakfast in their hall, then our
annual parade at noon from East
Tremont and Lafayette avenues;
Sunday, March 17, Happy St. Patrick’s
Day to all, regular 3rd Sunday
Post meeting at American Turners
NY, guess what’s for lunch?: Friday,
March 29, Commander’s downstate
visit and dinner at Antun’s of Queens
Village, fi nal prep at our 17th meeting.
It really is an amazing evening.
Cocktail hour starts at 6, I believe, so
plan for Friday traffi c anyway.
Our April meeting will be the 4th
Sunday at ATNY as the 3rd Sunday is
the Christian observance of Easter.
Media: Just found out SCPO
(SEAL) Don Shipley’s YouTube account,
outing fake vets, especially
Navy types, was closed down for bullying?
(He probably used some really
choice sailor words having been in
combat!) I wish him, the wife (also
a vet) and those who chase the disgraceful
sickos well. *Salute*
Until next time: John Fraser
Bryan AL Post 19 is again asking
for additional prayers for their long
time member Jim H. who is in need
of another surgery. Jim is also a
Bronx County vice commander who
was our Oratorical Contest committee
man for many years, his very
special Youth and Americanism
project.
Surviving a violent crime is not
as easy as a one hour TV show portrays.
See ya at the parade.

Are you sick and tired of this city
paying absolutely no mind to what
the residents of this city want? Are
you tired of telling our city government
and the electeds that are paid
by our tax dollars that we must have
responsible building in our neighborhoods?
We, the residents of our
neighborhoods know what is best for
our neighborhoods. Not those who
think they know what is best for us.
Irresponsible building practices
must end now. We are overdeveloped
now but the building continues
with absolutely no regard for all of
the things that must come before in
order to build responsibly. We must
have more police, more hospital
beds, more schools, updated infrastructure,
more parking before we
have more building.
Right now, our city government
as well as some of our electeds have
chosen to approve a zoning change
that will allow a 9-story apartment
building to move forward in a commercial
district on Blondell Avenue.
This is not an as of right project. The
developers need approval to proceed
and so far our government and some
electeds have gone against two community
boards and a huge number
of community residents to approve
this project.
But, it is not over. Councilman
Gjonaj’s vote has not been cast yet.
He can stop this project just like
Jimmy Vacca did for eight years.
I urge you to contact his office today
and tell him to vote “no” on the
Blondell Avenue Zoning proposal.
It does not matter what neighborhood
you live in. What happens next
door can easily knock on your door
next.
Let’s help our neighbors in
Westchester Square and stop it from
snowballing to all of us.
Contact Councilman Gjonaj today.
Call (718) 931-1721 or e-mail him
at MGonaj@council.nyc.gov. Tell
him to support his community as
well as community boards 10 and 11
and vote no.
The only way to a bright future
for our community is for all of us
to work together and support each
other.
March Meeting
Our next meeting will be on
Tuesday, March 26 at 7:30 p.m. at
the First Lutheran Church on Hollywood
and Baisley avenues. Please
make it your business to attend this
meeting. It will be chock full of very
important information.
We will start at 7:30 p.m. sharp because
we have four guests that will
bring information that you need to
know.
John Cerini, our Bronx Tax Man,
will speak about tax issues and the
new tax laws.
Joanne Mancini and other staff
from Ridgewood Savings Bank will
be speaking about ways to save your
hard earned money.
Chrys Napolitano will be speaking
about the Locust Point CSA and
other great food events.
Sandi Lusk will be updating
us on the building proposals in
Westchester Square. Both Blondell
Commons and the proposal for St.
Peter’s Church grounds are projects
we all need to be educated on. Bring
your notebook.
