Serrano announces nearly
$1 million in S-STEM $$ for
Hostos Community College
Congressman José E. Serrano
announced that CUNY Hostos Community
College has been awarded
$999,400 in funding for the Engineering
Academic Talent Scholarship
Program that builds on their previous
NSF-funded project ‘Bridges
to Engineering Success for Transfers’
Program. The Bridges program
helped to establish a Joint Dual Engineering
Degree Program between
Hostos Community College and the
Grove School of Engineering at The
City College of New York.
This new grant comes from the
National Science Foundation Scholarships
in Science, Technology, Engi-
neering, and Mathematics program,
which supports the retention and
graduation of high-achieving, lowincome
students with demonstrated
fi nancial need. Over fi ve years, the
funding for Hostos Community College
will allow the school to offer up
to 110 annual scholarships with full
fi nancial support for up to four years
of study, including up to two years at
Hostos Community College and up to
two years at the Grove School of Engineering.
Congressman Serrano oversees
NSF funding as the chairman of the
Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations
Subcommittee.
