Notable Passing
John ‘Jack’ Dooley, who
lived in the Bronx, passed
away in November in Valhalla,
N.Y.
He was 83-years-old.
A service was held at his
gravesite in St. Raymond’s
Cemetery on Friday, April 5,
where he was buried alongside
his wife Ethel Dooley
(nee Higgins).
Born February 11, 1936,
John is remembered for his love
of music and the arts.
His faith was remarkable
and his generosity towards others
often defi ned his orientation
to life.
We will miss his guidance,
his kindness and his sense of
humor, along with his knowledge
of history.
Jack leaves behind many
friends, nieces/nephew and
their families, and people who
loved and miss him. In lieu of
fl owers any donation to your
favorite charity would be appreciated.
High School Takes Home 3
Championships
Monsignor Scanlan High
School recently announced
that it garnered three basketball
championships titles in
the 2019 athletic season. In
March, three of the school’s
basketball teams, clinched
wins. They were the boys’ junior
varsity, girls’ junior varsity
and girl’s varsity teams.
The JV Boys were victorious
in the CHSAA City Championship
game in a defeat over
Xaverian High School.
Not to be outdone by the
boys, the JV and varsity girls’
teams each won New York
Archdiocesan Championship
games in respective wins
over Notre Dame High school
and Cardinal Spellman High
School.
The girls’ varsity team has
impressively earned this title
three times in the last four
years.
Scanlan is known for sending
a large number of athletes
to Division 1 college teams.
