Con Edison has been recognized
by PA Consulting as
the recipient of the 2018 ReliabilityOne
Award for Outstanding
Reliability Performance
in the Northeast
Region.
Con Edison, which serves
3.4 million customers in New
York City and Westchester
County, N.Y., accepted the
award at a ceremony held recently
in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Con Edison has prevented
hundreds of thousands of outages
with its four-year, $1 billion
“Fortifying the Future”
investment. Under that program,
which began after Superstorm
Sandy struck in
October 2012, the company
installed smart switches, submersible
equipment, stronger
poles and wiring and made
other upgrades to protect its
equipment against severe
weather.
The company is also installing
nearly fi ve million
smart meters for its electric
and gas customers. The meters
notify Con Edison when a
customer is out of power.
All large utilities operating
electric delivery networks
in North America are eligible
for consideration for the ReliabilityOne
BRONX TIMES REPORTER, D 32 ECEMBER 7-13, 2018 BTR
Award. There are
seven regional awards, including
Northeast, Mid-Atlantic,
Midwest, Plains, Mountains,
West, and Southeast.
The selection of provisional
recipients is based primarily
on statistics that measure the
frequency and duration of customer
outages.
After provisional recipients
are selected, each company
undergoes an on-site
certifi cation process, which
provides an independent review
and confi rmation of the
policies, processes and systems
used to collect, analyze
and report a company’s reliability
results.
