The Lehman College and Community
Latin Jazz Ensemble will
celebrate the holiday season with a
cabaret-concert program called ‘Que
Pique el Invierno: Let the Winter be
HOT!’ along with a dance workshop
on Sunday, December 16 in the Music
Building on campus. Admission
is free; donations are welcome.
‘Que Pique el Invierno: Let the
Winter be HOT!’ will begin at 2
p.m. with Lehman Professor Martin
Muntzel leading a mambo dance
workshop that is open to all. Afterwards,
the Latin Jazz Ensemble will
perform an uptempo program that
will include well-known compositions
by Ray Barretto, George Harrison,
Otis Redding, and others.
The Lehman College and Community
Latin Jazz Ensemble, comprised
of students, alumni, faculty, staff, and
community members, is co-directed
by veteran Latin jazz musicians Victor
Rendón and Armando Rodríguez,
both adjunct faculty members at Lehman
College. Among the featured
performers will be vocalists Felix
Otero, José González, Dena Robins,
and Lehman music student Kevin I.
Alvelo, along with student trumpet
soloist Jesus Morel.
Refreshments will be available at
the event, with sales benefi tting Lehman
L.I.F.E. scholarships.
And the dance fl oor will be open—
come join the celebration!

Studio and Bronx River Art Center
to present a free performance of
Romeo & Juliet on Sunday, December
9, at the Bronx River Art Center, 1087
East Tremont Avenue. Doors open at

sensory dough as well as making
your own creations with Playdough
by kneading, rolling and molding it!

Read & Play: Children from birth
to 3 years old and caregivers can take
part in wonderful stories, discover
amazing toys, and meet new friends
in this fun, informal program. Limit

Craft-A-Way: Drop in and participate
in creating projects related to a
theme or holiday. Ages 2 to 5. Friday,
December14, at 11:30 a.m.
Graffi ti Art Workshop: You be
you! Learn about the history of hiphop
and practice your graffi ti art
style. This workshop includes an oral
history on hip hop as well as jazz and
other similar roots. Presented by David
Alicea. Wednesday, December 19,
3 p.m.
Pajama Party: Pajamas at the library?
Come in to get comfy in your
PJs, have some snacks and settle in to
watch a movie. Light refreshments
will be provided. No registration required
but pajamas are encouraged.

After School Lounge: Come to the
library after school for a chance to
get a head start on your homework
before unwinding online! Monday
through Thursday from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
Friday Afternoon Activities: On

Card Workshop; December 14,
Wii and Board Games; December 21,
Lego Tower Challenge; and December

City Island Calligraphy: Calligraphy
is an ancient form of communication
and artistic expression that
has since taken on a wide variety of
styles and functions. Here at the City
Island Library, patron and volunteer
Regina Sanglier will teach you the
basics, and hopefully get you creating
your very own works of art. Be
sure to attend these two introductory
lessons to see if you’re interested in
continuing on in the New Year. Registration

Mensa Mondays: Doing puzzles
has been linked to improved memory,
better problem-solving skills,
