VELOCITY TRACK CLUB
NEW YORK HIGHLIGHTS
SCA Cheerleaders Win Bid
to Nationals for 15th
Consecutive Year
BRONX TIMES REPORTER, J BTR ANUARY 11-17, 2019 57
COACH WINSTON DINKINS
The Velocity Track Club
wishes everyone a prosperous
and heathy Happy New
Year! We had an outstanding
2018 year and I’m excited for
the possibilities for 2019! In
2018, Velocity have 15 records;
One Junior Olympics Record,
10 USATF New York Records,
two Ocean Breeze Records and
two Icahn Stadium Records.
In, addition we were blessed
with 29 Association / District
Champions, 18 Region Champions,
12 Indoor National medals
and had seven Colgate
Women’s Games fi nalist earning
over $3,000 in educational
grants.
First, I would like to thank
our Lord and Savor Jesus
Christ for all the Blessings.
Second, this couldn’t be accomplished
without all of the
parents who allow us to train
their children, while fundraising
and supporting our
staff in so many ways. Next,
the athletes for believing in
our training and putting in
the work because faith and
work must coexist. Thank
you to our community, the
support in donations we received
to help us get uniforms
and equipment. To our Council
Member Andy King for
his support, Riverbay Corporation
and the DYCD Beacon
for giving Velocity a place to
practice. Thank you to Eugene
Hawkins and James
C. Herbert AKA Smooth at
the Family Fitness Center
in Section Five for their expertise
in strength training.
Bronx Times for posting
our articles. In addition, the
best staff a club team could
ask for: Tanya Ingram, Serena
Jackson, Diana Kendall,
Edith Tolbert, Celeste Reynolds,
Devora Joseph, Tanesha
Blake and Ranee Parker, who
do so much behind the scenes,
such as organizing group
functions, track meet registrations,
as well as fi ttings
for uniforms, fundraising,
assisting with the children
and much more. Thank you,
Ladies. Lastly, the coaches’
staff! Garry Caldwell, Destry
Gordon, KenDell Jackson and
I are great role models to our
athletes. We all volunteer our
time and sometimes personal
funds to advance our children.
We study and take classes to
learn more about track & fi eld
to improve our craft. It’s awesome
to get four men to work
together for a common cause
without getting a fi nancial
award. Thank you coaches.
If I left anyone out, please
charge it to my head, and not
my heart!
