St. Catharine’s Cheerleaders Excel at Nationals for 10 Straight Years
Once again, the St. Catharine Academy JV and Varsity Cheerleading teams excelled at the National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida,
February 8-10. Sponsored by the Universal Cheerleading Association (UCA), this event is the most prestigious high school cheerleading championship in the country.
The JV team was rewarded with fifth place in the Junior Varsity Non-Tumbling Division. For the tenth year in a row, the Varsity qualified for Finals, this year placing 6th
of 61 teams in the Small Varsity Division II, considered to be the biggest, toughest, and most competitive tumbling division in the entire country. Acing the first round
of competition, the Varsity immediately qualified for Finals, skipping the semi-finals. “Teams change year after year, but for the Varsity team to consistently excel, to
reach final competition for ten consecutive years is a feat very difficult to accomplish,” said Varsity Coach Nicole Sallustio, who is also an SCA alumna. Coach Sallustio
continued, “The hard work from our girls is what it is all about and we are so proud of them.” Sr. Patricia Wolf, RSM, President pwolf@scahs.org 718-882-2882
