Cuniberti has become a partner of
Houlihan-Parnes Properties. Michael
is a Licensed Real Estate Broker
and an EIT certifi ed mechanical
engineer from Tulane University. He
joined the fi rm in June, 2000. As the
current managing director of HPP,
he oversees the operation and renovations
of HPP’s properties throughout
Westchester County, New York City,
and the tri-state area. He oversees
a group of asset managers, brokers,
and staff that operate a diverse portfolio
of commercial real estate, including
multiple co-op/condo buildings,
1,500 + residential rental units,
and over 225,000 SF of commercial/
retail space.
His construction experience includes
the management and design
of both individual apartment renovations
and a large scale building wide
construction projects. He has managed
many major capital projects including
but not limited to erection
of new buildings, roof replacements,
building façade renovations and restorations,
boiler replacements, window
replacement, and electrical
upgrades. He is experienced in environmental
upgrades including boiler
fuel conversions and the installation
of computer controlled energy management
systems.

classes from gentle yoga stretch, balance
class, arthritis workshop and
tai chi as well as the fi t for life and

painting, calligraphy, canasta,
health presentations, singing group,
and parties. Lunch is served from
noon to 1 p.m., suggested donation $2.
The center participants go on shopping
trips every day; i.e. Shop Rite,
Dollar Tree, Target, Kmart ,as well
as theatre excursions, boat trips, special
luncheons and more. It’s free to
become a member but you must be 60

lmana Fulger, MD, division director
of Hematology/Oncology at
SBH Health System (St. Barnabas
Hospital), is the 2019 recipient of the
the Bronx County Medical Society’s
“Peer to Peer” Excellence in Medicine
Recognition Award. Dr. Fulger
will be presented with the award at
the 16th Annual Doctors Day Event
on Thursday, March 28 at the Mercy
College Conference Center, 1200 Waters
Place. The award is given annually
to local physicians who have
enriched the lives of their patients
through exemplary care and dedication.
Dr. Fulger, who did her fellowship
training in Hematology/Oncology at
Albert Einstein College of Medicine,
completed her internal medicine residency
at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital
Center. A native of Romania, she
has over 25 years of medical experience.

The Peace Corps announced that
Fordham University ranked Number
24 among medium-sized schools on
the agency’s list of top volunteer-producing
colleges and universities in
2019. There are 17 Fordham alumni
currently volunteering in countries
around the world.
Fordham is back on the list of top
medium schools after not ranking in
2018.
“We have seen time and again that
the colleges and universities that
produce the most Peace Corps volunteers
focus on cultivating global citizens
in addition to promoting scholarship,”
said Peace Corps director
Jody Olsen. “I am proud that so many
graduates of these esteemed institutions
leverage their educations to
make the world a better place. They
bring critical skills to communities
around the world and gain hands-on,
life-changing experience along the
way.”
Since the Peace Corps’ founding
in 1961, more than 470 alumni from
Fordham University have served
abroad as volunteers. In 2018, New
York ranked No. 2 among volunteerproducing
metropolitan areas with
399 volunteers serving overseas.
The Peace Corps ranks its top volunteer
producing colleges and universities
annually according to the
size of the student body.

In keeping with an eleventh year
tradition that began in 2009, the
Bronx’ urban tradition, The Taino
Awards announces its 2019 winners
and honorees. The Taino Awards rewards
distinguished achievement
in the current revival of Native and
Indigenous People of the Caribbean,
especially Puerto Rico. Each award
winner is recognized for their work
and for their achievements in the
Taino community as a whole.
Held Sunday April 21, 4 p.m. at
the Bronx Museum of the Arts on the
Grand Concourse, the 11th Annual
Taino Awards sets apart those individuals
who have served their community
and have continued the tradition
of restoring and preserving
Taino culture. Since the resurgence
and revival in the 1980s, the Taino
Revival Movement has sought to recapture
an Indigenous culture that
was once thought lost due to colonization.
The Taino Awards is an extension
of those who have worked tirelessly
to preserve, protect and defend
Taino and Puerto Rican culture.
“The Taino Awards are given in
order to recognize Taino people for
all of their efforts in keeping our culture
alive, and showing the world,
that The Taino people are still here
despite what some books may say,”
said awards founder and organizer
Candy Soto. “We have many unsung
heroes in our Taino Community that
are committed to educating people,
keeping the culture alive, and are
very proud of the Legacy of our Noble
Taino people.” We have 33 Ccategories
and every year we give 16
awards.

and crafts for sale from out blend of
Taino Artisans.

“Artisan of the Year 2018” As is The
Taino Awards tradition the “Artisan”
of the Year, designs and creates
the following year’s awards.
