Stan Lee’s last cinematic thriller acknowledges Bronxite’s genius
Morris Park road diet injunction requested - why is the city deaf?
Councilman Mark Gjonaj
fi led an injunction to stop the
NYC Department of Transportation’s
‘road diet’ plan. The
case will be adjudicated before
this issue hits the newsstand
on Friday. We wish the community
success in its efforts.
The opposition to the Morris
Park Avenue road diet has
more to do with the concept of
democracy than it does with
re-lining a street. There was a
clear cut “NO” from the Mor-
ris Park community, yet until
a legislator had to literally
sue the city, has been done to
shape a deal with the community
at large.
In this case, Vision Zero is
exactly that. No context, no understanding
and no regard for
a taxpaying majority’s wishes
for its own community.
Some of these taxpayers
own businesses that contribute
to the city’s coffers - don’t
these voices count? Is the city’s

intent to drive the remainder
of ‘mom and pop’ stores out of
business?
The proposal is supposedly
in the interest of safety, but is
it? The Morris Park community
is also concerned about
safety - the safety of its children
playing on its residential
side streets that will now face
unnecessary congestion and
speeding vehicles avoiding
the snail-paced traffi c on Morris
Park Avenue.
Also, with the ongoing issue
of double parking and
truck deliveries, emergency
vehicles are now at risk, losing
life-threatening seconds
as they plod their way to area
hospitals like Jacobi or Montefi
ore. Police may not be able
to stop crimes in time in Morris
Park either if they can’t get
to them quick enough. Not to
mention, when the FDNY can’t
reach a fi re, seconds count.
Morris Park is not opposed
to change. The kind of
change that the community
approves of and is involved
in its implimentation. Citizens
lose faith in their government
when it imposes an
agenda that doesn’t refl ect
their wishes.
So NYC, let’s rethink this,
Morris Park has offered and
suggested alternatives and
there is middle ground that
can be reached without a
court’s deliberation.

Excelsior!
Well Stanley Martin
Leiber, you did it. You created
another universe in which
we are all united against the
forces of evil.
The Bronx and University
Heights is proud to call you
one of its alum, as is DeWitt
Clinton High School.
When you created your
condensed name into Stan
Lee some years later, along
came our beloved Avengers
that duked it out with Thanos
on the big screen this
week, grossing a historic,
record setting $1.481 billion
worldwide.
You made your superheroes
have mortal fl aws, you
made them just like us.
Stan, you showed us that
there is good out there and
why it is important to protect
the people that can’t always
do it for themselves. Not to
mention, who doesn’t love a
web-slinging, pizza loving
photojournalist.
Other Bronx comic writers
like Mario Simone and
Rajive Anand learned from
you and your classic narratives
of good versus evil, a
unique twist.
Each cameo you had on
screen would make audiences
in the Bronx and around the
world applaud because it was
a reminder of the years you
gave to making people think,
believe and dream.
Personally the Bronx
Times enjoyed your fi nal cinematic
thriller the best, but
don’t worry, we won’t spoil
the endgame.
