Pimentel will now join three other
Aquinites; Kiara Raiford, Guadalupe
Pimentel and Sydney Perry Walker,
who were also awarded the Toussaint
Scholarship. The students selected
were chosen based on their strong academic
record, demonstration of good
character and sound leadership abilities.
The Toussaint Scholarship is renewable
for consecutive years of college
studies, based upon students
meeting academic and service requirements
and may continue into their
post- graduate studies as well.

City Parks Foundation is kicking
off its 2019 Spring sports programs
for young people and seniors. Through
June, City Parks Foundation will host
over 800 youth and 600 seniors in over
20 neighborhood parks and recreation
centers for participation in free sports
programs. Youth programs include
golf, track & fi eld, tennis, and senior
programs include tennis, yoga, and fi tness
walking. Registration for all programs
are now open online with limited
walk-up registration offered at
each site.
CityParks Golf presented with The
First Tee NYC offers youth, ages six to
17, the opportunity to play golf at the
CityParks Junior Golf Center in Bay
Ridge, Brooklyn. The program will be
held through Friday, June 28. The program
offers golf instruction for all skill
levels at our facility and use of equipment.
The Center features a 6-hole par
3 course, putting and chipping greens,
a driving range, clubhouse and classroom.
CityParks Track & Field, presented
in partnership with New York Road
Runners and supported by the Randall’s
Island Park Alliance, gives New
York City kids, ages eight to 14, the
chance to learn the basics of the sport.
From hurdles and relay races, to long
jump, shot put and javelin throw, this
program runs through Saturday, June
8 in Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Queens,
with sessions once per week. The Jesse
Owens Track and Field program introduces
novice runners to cross country
distance running through runs from
East Harlem to Randall’s Island Park.
This program runs from through Monday,
June 23 in Manhattan, and is held
once per week.
CityParks Seniors Fitness, presented
in partnership with New York
Road Runners, is held in 17 neighborhood
parks across the city. Seniors
Fitness, offered from through Friday,
June 14, gives New Yorkers 60+ the
chance to participate in free tennis
lessons, yoga and fi tness walking. All
equipment is provided. The program
has served over 10,000 participants
since it began in 2006 and encourages
older New Yorkers to maximize their
health benefi ts by staying active.
Online registration is now open
for all spring programs at CityParks-
Foundation.org/play. Participants are
encouraged to register online in advance,
though walk-up participants
may register on-site if space permits.

Consider donating new gift items to
Jeanne Jugan Residence, located at
2999 Schurz Avenue. These items can
be sold annually in their gift shop and
Christmas Bazaar. They have a special
need for brand new toys. Other items
include costume jewelry, gift sets,
electronic items, specialty items, new
tagged clothing, accessories and collectibles.
They are unable to take VHS,
used dish sets, loose glassware/vases,
books or used bedding of any kind.

Do you need help getting to and
from your medical appointments?
Transportation services are available
to seniors Monday through Friday, 8
a.m. to 4 p.m., in community districts
9, 10, 11 and 12. The program provides
door-to-door service for all medical appointments.
Their drivers are courteous
and professional; and their vehicles
are clean and handicap accessible,
including wheelchair lifts.

Stop by the PSS City Island Center,
located at 116 City Island Avenue,
Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.
to 3 p.m. Experience their exercise
classes from gentle yoga stretch, balance
class, arthritis workshop and tai
chi as well as the fi t for life and cardio
fi t.
They also offer acrylic painting,
calligraphy, canasta, health presentations,
singing group, and parties.
Lunch is served from noon to 1 p.m.,
suggested donation $2. The center participants
go on shopping trips every
day; i.e. Shop Rite, Dollar Tree, Target,
Kmart ,as well as theatre excursions,
boat trips, special luncheons
and more. It’s free to become a member
but you must be 60 years or above.
