SCA Cheerleaders
Win Bid to Nationals
The SCA Varsity will get a chance to defend their national ranking
at the Universal Cheerleading Associations’ (UCA) national competition
in Orlando, Florida, February 8-10, 2019. The Varsity turned
in a fi rst place performance at the Empire Regional Competition at
Nassau Community College on December 9, 2018. SCA competes in
the Small Varsity Division 2 tumbling division and is ranked 3rd in
the Nation. The fi rst place fi nish created an automatic bid to the
national competition. The JV placed second in the Junior Varsity
Non-Tumbling division also earning a bid to Nationals. The JV will
be defending their 1st place ranking in the nation. Coach Nicole Pennacchia
Sallustio said, “I am so proud of the accomplishments of
the Varsity and JV cheerleading teams. I am optimistic that we will
continue to bring home a top national ranking for SCA.”
St. Raymond HS Basketball
Alumni Return for Annual
Blue & Orange Games
On Saturday, November 17, 2018 St. Raymond High School for Boys
(SRHS) held their Third Annual Blue and Orange Games. St. Raymond
had a full day of basketball including the very popular Alumni Game.
Over 20 St. Raymond basketball alumni returned home to the Raven’s
Nest for a classic battle on the court.

Monsignor Scanlan High
School’s Girl Track Team

On Friday, December 14th,
2018, Monsignor Scanlan High
School’s Girl Track Team competed
in Week 1 of the 45th Colgate
Women’s Games at Pratt
Institute in Brooklyn, New
York. The Colgate Women’s
Games is the nation’s largest
amateur track series open to all
girls from elementary school
through college and beyond.
Competitors participate in
four preliminary meets. Then
a semi-fi nal to determine fi nalists
who will compete for trophies
and educational grantsin
aid from Colgate-Palmolive
Company. Prizes were awarded
for placing 1st through 6th in
each preliminary meet, the
semi-fi nals and fi nals. At the
preliminary meets, the top 12
fi nishers in each event earn
points. All athlete with points
may compete in the semifi nals
in one event. High school athletes
compete as 1 division.
Freshman athletes must compete
against seniors, juniors
and sophomores. Therefore,
to obtain points would be very
diffi cult task for a Freshman
student athlete. Monsignor
Scanlan’s Freshman Hannah
Gadpaille did an outstanding
job placing 3rd in the 55-meter
and 7th in the 400-meter dash.
Freshman Jesna John also participated
and performed well.
On Saturday, December
15th, 2018 Monsignor Scanlan
Track Team competed in
the Ignatian Invitational at
Fordham University @ Vince
Lombardi Center. Medals
were given to the top 8 athletes
in their event. Catholic
High Schools and Public High
Schools athletes were in attendance,
which made it diffi cult
to earn medals. However, that
didn’t stop the Crusaders of
Monsignor Scanlan! Hannah
Gadpaille won the Freshman
Girls 55 meters and earned
a Silver medal in the 300 meters.
Junior Student Athlete
Jordan Providence competed
against the senior athletes and
won two medals. He placed 8th
in the Varsity 300 meters and
2nd in the 600-meter race. Senior
Tyrique Hanson earned a
4th place medal in the varsity
55-meter dash. Eden Lawrence
missed medaling by 1 second
but took 10th place in the Varsity
300 meters race. Great job
crusaders!!!
Our next meet will be Friday,
December 21st Colgate
Women’s Games and Saturday,
December 29th the 2018
CHSAA Jr. Weight & Novice
Championship.
