Baseball Hall of Famer
Mariano Rivera
The 161st Street Business Improvement District raised a cup to
toast Yankee legend Mariano Rivera in honor of his election into
the Baseball Hall of Fame on Wednesday, January 23. The public
toast occurred underneath the Rivera Avenue sign at the intersection
of East 161st Street and Rivera Avenue outside of Yankee
Stadium. Local elected offi cials’ representatives presented
citations honoring ‘The Sandman’ for his humanitarianism and
contribution to education in his native Panama and New York.
Dr. Cary Goodman, 161st BID executive director, made sure everyone’s
cup was fi lled with apple cider.
