Lara, a former West Indies captain

are long over and they had to go
through a qualifying tournament to
book their spot in the l0-team tournament
in England starting from the

He said the bilateral series win for
West Indies, who are ranked ninth

against England.
He noted that the Jason Holder’s
team drew a five match ODI series

the World Cup.
The likes of opening batsman
Chris Gayle, all-rounder Andre Russell
and spinner Sunil Narine are
also much in demand in Twenty20
leagues across the globe.
“Look at the Indian Premier
League, look at the leagues around
the world, we have got players that
are the most wanted in the world,”
he said at a promotional event in
Mumbai.
“We have match winners, but we
are going to need a little more than
match-winners in English conditions
to win the World Cup. We need a
team that can create constituency,”
Lara added.
Lara considered one of the very
best the Caribbean islands have ever
produced, retired after the 2007
World Cup at him with over 10,000
runs in ODIs. He also scored close to
12,000 runs in Tests.
Rowley on the need for a regional

The St. Vincent and the Grenadines

first things they have to do is unite
the whole cricket family in the West

He said the regional consultation

The new Cricket West Indies (CWI)
administration is facing its first legal
action over its decision to fire Barbadian
Vasbert Drakes from its coaching
staff.
Drakes’ attorney, Barbadian Ralph
Thorne, QC, said CWI’s actions were
“unlawful” and would proceed with
court action to gain “reinstatement
and or compensation.”
CWI recently announced that
interim head coach Richard Pybus,
along with his coaching staff, had
been axed ahead of next month’s ICC
World Cup.
Former Barbados and West Indies
captain Floyd Reifer has replaced
Pybus.
Reports are that the CWI contacted
Drakes by phone and advised
him that his services were no longer
required.
Drakes attorney said he sent a letter
to CWI indicating that it was not
the proper way to terminate his client’s
services and they ought to do it
in a more formal manner.
“Whether they reply or not, we
intend to pursue this matter and I
am willing to move this course to
grant relief in terms of reinstatement
and or compensation,” he told Barbados
Today online.
Drakes was recalled for the recent
tour of England after Englishman
Pybus was appointed head coach in
January.
The coaching staff included Englishman
Toby Radford and Guyanese
Eusan Crandon and Drakes
who helped oversee the West Indies’
shock 2-1 win in the Test series over
England.
