Fraudster buys tees
An identity thief fraudulently
bought hundreds of dollars’ worth
of goods at the Neiman Marcus
store at 500 West 33 St., police
said.
On Sunday, Sept. 22, at 3:45
p.m., a loss prevention employee at
the shop said that a woman used a
fraudulent Neiman Marcus card to
purchase two designer t-shirts with
a total value of $690.
Another woman’s account was
used, and when she was contacted
by the store, she said that she had
not given permission for the purchases.
Cheryl Grant, 28, was arrested
that day for identity theft, a felony.

Creep on C Train

This man is wanted by police for
alleged public lewdness on the
subway.
A subway creep is wanted by police
for public lewdness in a station at
Eighth Avenue and 14th Street. The
incident occurred on Saturday, Sept. 7,
around 9:30 a.m., when a 41-year-old
woman was riding on a downtown C
train.
A man sitting across from her exposed
his penis and masturbated, police
said, before exiting at the Canal
Street station.

Tossed phone in tiff
A subway altercation ended with a
smashed phone at the Eighth Avenue
and 14th Street station, according to
police.
On Friday, Sept. 20, at 3:30 p.m., a
60-year-old woman was on a crowded
uptown A train, when a man tried to sit
next to her and allegedly began brushing
his shoulder into her. The woman
told police that she had an argument
with the man and tried to take a photo
of him with her phone.
The man then allegedly took her
phone and threw it on the ground,
stomping on it multiple times, before
kicking it out of the train car and onto
the tracks. The woman was able to retrieve
the phone, which had a broken
screen.
The man fl ed to parts unknown,
and is described by police as black, 30
years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall and 180
pounds.

Shelter assault
A homeless woman staying in a shelter
assaulted a staff member, according
to a police report.
The incident occurred at around 9:20
a.m. on Sept. 21 at the shelter located
at 515 West 42nd St., when a homeless
woman came to the shelter’s offi ce and
started arguing with staff members, according
to a worker there. The woman
demanded to know who had touched
her belongings in her room.
Cops said she continued arguing
with staff members, and then allegedly
punched one of the workers, causing
bleeding and cuts to her face. The staff
member refused medical attention
Christine Morel, 27, was arrested for
misdemeanor assault.

Trio wanted for Central Park robbery
Detectives are looking for three
young men who robbed and assaulted
a couple walking through
Central Park last week.
Law enforcement sources said
the incident happened at 9:50
p.m. on Sept. 19, shortly after the
69-year-old man and 56-year-old
woman entered
the park at Sixth
Avenue.
They were
heading northbound
along a
Central Park
Precinct
path toward 59th Street when,
according to police, the three
suspects approached them
from behind.
They then demanded that the
man hand over his wallet.
Authorities said the victim complied
and gave them his wallet,
prompting the trio to push both
victims to the ground.
The group then took off in an unknown
direction.
Members of the Central Park Precinct
responded to the scene. Cops
determined that the stolen wallet
contained credit cards and $120
in cash.
On Sept. 20, the NYPD released
images of the three suspects, one
of whom was described as a white
or Hispanic man believed to be
20 years of age
who wore a black
sweater and a
black hat.
The two additional
suspects,
police said, were men wearing
hooded sweatshirts.

W. Village man
takes fatal fall

A man apparently took a fatal fall
while climbing down a fire escape
in Greenwich Village on Sept. 24.
Detectives are looking into the death
of a senior man who apparently took a
fatal fall on a West Village fi re escape
on Tuesday morning.
Offi cers from the 6th Precinct and
EMS units responded at 11:45 a.m. on
Sept. 26 to a 911 call about an unconscious
man at an apartment building on
Bleecker Street between Morton and
Cornelia Streets.
Upon arriving at the scene, fi rst responders
found 71-year-old Gary English,
who lived at the Bleecker Street
home, unconscious and unresponsive
on a rear fi re escape overlooking the
building’s courtyard.
Sources familiar with the investigation
stated that a maintenance worker
at the building discovered English and
called for help.
English was found with injuries to
head and neck, and law enforcement
sources indicated that it appears he
suffered them from a fall down the fi re
escape steps. Paramedics pronounced
him dead at the location.
English’s body was transported to the
Medical Examiner’s offi ce for an autopsy
to determine the cause of death.
No criminality is suspected at this
time, police said. The investigation is
ongoing.
