Queens Made Western Queens is teeming with entrepreneurs in several industries and in this issue we will profile several residents who use their talents to create innovative products in the borough. MadeinQNS, a pop-up shop in Long Island City, is bringing these entrepreneurs and business owners together to make it easier for them to sell their products and spread the word to locals about the interesting and innovative products being made right in there neighborhoods. Personalized leather bags, natural hot sauce and silk ties are just some of the things people can purchase at MadeinQNS. In this issue, we also highlight a proposal to transform an abandoned rail line in Long Island City into a wildlife sanctuary complete with bug hotels, bat caves, bird houses and native plants. We showcase an Astoria resident’s stunning aerial photography that he shot using a drone. The photographs capture the Hell Gate Bridge and the East River during sunset. A new restaurant in Astoria called Flattopps, which stems from the owners of Queens Comfort, features a hip-hop theme and includes a burger named after rapper Gucci Mane.
