On behalf of the Long Island City
Partnership, and our co-hosts
Modern Spaces and the Queens
Courier, we welcome you to the
5th annual LIC Summit: America’s
Fastest Growing Neighborhood:
What’s Next?
We held our first LIC Summit five years ago,
beginning a series of ongoing conversations
about the neighborhood, and also planting the
seeds for our first Comprehensive Plan. Our
past four Summits have covered Innovation,
Residential and Commercial Real Estate,
Workforce, Transportation, Arts & Culture,
TV & Film, and LIC as a Fashion District and
much more. Over this time, the neighborhood
has continued to change and grow, emerging
as a transit-rich, mixed-use, live/work/play
center of urban vitality. LIC is now one of the
fastest-growing neighborhoods in the country
and remains one of the most productive areas
in the state.
This year, we are focusing on What’s Next for
this essential neighborhood, with Cornell Tech
open across the river, innovative companies
increasingly making LIC home, quickly growing
and maturing residential and retail sectors,
Life Sciences interest gaining momentum,
our cultural scene also on the rise, and bigname
companies talking about making LIC
their future headquarters. How will the
neighborhood accommodate unprecedented
growth - and what can we do to make sure
that this growth is sustainable, balanced, and
inclusive? Today’s panels will discuss: The Next
Big Idea, Arts and Corporate Responsibilities,
Public Services, Innovation Community, and
Building Our Mixed Use Future.
We wish to thank all of our elected officials,
sponsors, partners, and civic and business
leaders who have together built and shaped
LIC. We also thank our stellar Summit Planning
Committee and Board for helping us put
together such a high quality program, and the
Museum of the Moving Image for hosting us.
Thank you for attending today and being part
of the conversation. We hope that you will
participate actively both today and beyond.
