Man survives shot to the head outside Flatlands diner

lot littered with about a dozen
shell casings, and stained with
blood.
The diner’s manager told
this newspaper he heard loud
noises at the time of the shooting,
but that he and his employees
didn’t check out the sounds’
source because they thought it
was a car accident.
“I heard bam-bam-bam. I
thought it was a car accident,
but I was busy working inside
the place,” said Mario Perez.
Soon afterwards, however,
multiple cop cars arrived and
police cordoned off the blacktop
to investigate, according
to Perez, who said the site is
now clear, but one patrol car
remains stationed outside the
24-hour diner.
Authorities have yet to
identify the shooter, and their
investigation is ongoing, offi -
cials said.

A young man survived after a
shooter pumped a bullet into
his head outside a Flatlands
diner, police said.
The unknown assailant
on Feb. 17 shot the 22-yearold
victim from behind,
causing a graze wound and
another head injury, just after
3 pm in the parking lot
of the Arch Diner at the intersection
of Flatlands and
Ralph avenues, according to
a Police Department spokeswoman.
Paramedics rushed the
man to Kings County Hospital
where he remains in
stable condition, the spokeswoman
said on Tuesday.
The victim didn’t get a
look at the shooter, who fl ed
on Flatlands Avenue towards
Utica Avenue, cops said.

Cops arrest, charge
man for murdering
his mom at home

Police arrested a man on Feb.
13 for allegedly murdering
his own mother in their Flatlands
apartment days before.
Cops cuffed the 54-yearold
and charged him with
killing his 75-year-old mom
Hyacinth Khaleel, whom
they found unconscious with
multiple stab wounds inside
the Kings Highway apartment
the two shared on Feb.
11, police said.
Authorities booked their
suspect just after 6:30 pm
within the confi nes of the
63rd Precinct.
But a Police Department
spokesman could not specify
exactly where cops caught up
with him.
Offi cers found Khaleel
unresponsive with multiple
slashes in her arms and legs
while responding to a wellness
check at her residence
between Flatbush Avenue
and Overbaugh Place, cops
said.
Paramedics pronounced
her dead at the scene, and authorities
deemed the death a
homicide the next day, due
to the stab wounds throughout
her body, according to a
Police Department spokeswoman.
But the city’s medical examiner
has yet to determine
a cause of death, according to
a spokeswoman.
