More than 2,700 perished in the attacks, and in the hours after 9/11, a combination of fi rst responders and construction workers frantically worked to clear debris in the search for survivors. Unfortunately, only a handful of people were rescued. In the days following the 9/11 attacks, photographer George Flo of the Ridgewood Times made repeated trips to the World Trade Center site to photograph the rescue process as it was underway.
