Jamaica gang member gets 15 years behind bars

A reputed gang member from Jamaica
has been sentenced shooting a man in the
back last year along with committing fi ve
armed robberies.
Queens District Attorney Richard A.
Brown said on Th ursday that Shukri
Johnson, 21, who is a purported member
of the Bloods street gang, pleaded guilty
to one count of second-degree attempted
murder and fi ve counts of fi rst-degree
robbery. He was sentenced to 15 years in
prison and fi ve years’ post-release supervision.
According to charges, on Dec. 30, 2016,
Johnson shot Shariff Funny, 25, in the
back and hip as he stood waiting for an
elevator in a building on Foch Boulevard
in Jamaica. Funny survived his injuries.
Charges also stated that Johnson and
another individual committed armed robberies
on Oct. 17 at an A&J Pharmacy,
located at 131-08 Liberty Ave.; Nov. 15
at a Verizon Wireless store, located at
121-20 Liberty Ave.; Nov. 27 at Premier
Repair cell phone shop, located at 194-06
Northern Blvd.; and Dec. 31 at a T Mobile
store, located at 132-07 Liberty Ave., all in
2016; and a fi nal robbery on Jan. 2, 2017,
at a T Mobile store, located at 133-26
Springfi eld Blvd.
During the robberies, Johnson would
wear a mask and held a gun and forced
employees into a back room, making them
lie face-down on the fl oor. Johnson took
cash and phones from cell phone stores
and cash and narcotics from a pharmacy.
Th is kind of violence and criminal activity
will not be tolerated in Queens,” Brown
said in an Oct. 12 statement. “Th e defendant,
a young man who could have chosen
a diff erent path for his future, is now
going to prison for a very long time. Th e
sentence imposed by the Court yesterday
will punish the defendant for his criminal

Nine Queens neighborhoods make list of city's priciest

Th ough Manhattan and Brooklyn
dominate PropertyShark‘s list of top 50
priciest neighborhoods the “World’s
Borough’s” increasingly expensive housing
market has led to nine neighborhoods
making the list.
Queens doesn’t show up until more
than halfway through the list but all nine
neighborhoods saw median sales prices
increase since last year, according to
the report.
At number 27, Belle Harbor is the most
expensive neighborhood in the third quarter
of 2017. Th e median sales price for single
family homes, condos and co-ops is
$1,072,500. Th is represents a 27 percent
increase since the same time last year.
Th e Hunters Point section of Long
Island City is ranked 32nd with a median
sales price of $967,203, which represents a
3 percent increase since last year.
The Ditmars-Steinway section of
Astoria saw a 10 percent increase in median
sales price since last year. Th e median
sales price for homes in the area is
$879,000.
Ranking 43 and 44 Queensboro Hill
and Auburndale saw a 6 percent increase
and 9 percent increase in median sales
price since last year. Purchasing a home
in these neighborhoods will set you back
$868,000 and $850,000.
East Flushing (46), Jamaica Estates
(47) and Fresh Meadows (48) also made
the list with median sales prices topping
$800,000.
Douglaston was last on the list but saw
a whopping 45 percent increase in median
