Marc Ribot performed during Winter JazzFest the evening of “We Resist” at Poisson Rouge on Bleecker St. Winter JazzFest began 15 years ago
at The Knitting Factory. It as held on nine nights on 12 stages around Downtown Manhattan. As part of this year’s fest, a concert series — which
began two years ago as an homage to Max Roach’s “We Insist! Freedom Now Suite” — was held at Poisson Rouge. Musicians Arturo O’ Farrill, the
Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, Marc Ribot and others highlighted critical current-day issues, such as immigration, gender equality, lax gun laws,
mass incarceration and other forms of social justice through music and spoken word.
