Responders rushed the man
to Sunset Park’s NYU Langone
Hospital–Brooklyn for treatment
of non-life-threatening
injuries, according to cops,
who said the accident injured
no one else.
Workers doing maintenance
on an underground pipe
dug the trench, but luckily the
roughly 12-person crew was
toiling further down the block
when the elder drove into it,
according to Solomonson.
Police called in a towing
company to remove the car,
which was completely submerged
in the hole, some two
hours after the incident.

An oldster drove his fourwheeler
into a trench on Avenue
V in Sheepshead Bay,
sustaining minor injuries,
police said.
The 89-year-old driver was
driving on Bedford Avenue
towards the Belt Parkway on
Nov. 14 when he turned right
onto Avenue V at 11 am and
lost control of his 2003 Nissan
Sentra, fl ipping it upside
down and landing in the sixfoot
ditch, according to a Police
Department rep.
Firefi ghters and cops arrived
soon after and spent
about 15 minutes pulling the
man from his four-wheeler,

concedes
his seat

Republican Marty Golden
formally conceded his Southern
Brooklyn seat of 16 years
to Democratic rival and state
Senator–elect Andrew Gounardes
on Monday, 13 days
after Gounardes claimed an
Election Day victory in the
race to represent the state’s
22nd Senate district, which
includes Bay Ridge, Dyker
Heights, Bensonhurst, Marine
Park, Gerritsen Beach, Gravesend,
and parts of Sheepshead
Bay, Borough Park, and
Midwood.
“I congratulate Andrew
Gounardes and wish him well
in his service to the people of
the 22nd state Senate District,”
state Sen. Golden said.
Days after the highly anticipated
race, Golden on Nov.
8 vowed not to bow out until
election offi cials counted every
ballot, even after Gounardes
pulled ahead by more
than 1,100 votes, according to
the most-recent data from the
state Board of Elections, which
does not yet refl ect more than
1,800 absentee ballots cast in
the district.
Offi cials with the Kings
County Board of Elections accepted
those ballots through
