On behalf of the Long Island City Partnership, and our co-hosts Modern Spaces and the Queens Courier, we welcome you to the third annual LIC Summit: Ideas and Impacts. Long Island City is an authentic mixed-use neighborhood, with an exceptional blend of industrial, commercial, residential, tech and cultural sectors. Each year we have the challenge of covering this dynamism within the confines of one Summit. In the past two years we’ve covered everything from Residential and Commercial Real Estate, Neighborhood Services, Business, Transportation, TV & Film, Tech, Arts & Culture and Tourism. Today, we are highlighting changes since the last Summit, including: the outlook for jobs and economic development, the next wave and type of development, the evolution of fashion activity including major fashion brands, challenges and innovations in our transit systems including ferries and streetcars, and connecting the current and future workforce to jobs in LIC. Many of the themes from this and past years emerged from Phase 1 of our LIC Comprehensive Plan, which we are excited to share more about with you today. We have assembled a distinguished roster of thought leaders from across the borough, city and state to discuss our community’s present and prospective landscape. Many more are in the audience, and we look forward to an important discourse throughout the day. We wish to thank all of our elected officials, sponsors, partners, and civic and business leaders who have together driven the monumental change in LIC. We also thank our stellar Summit Planning Committee for helping us put together such a high quality program, and the Museum of the Moving Image for hosting us.
