FOR BREAKING NEWS VISIT WWW.QNS.COM MARCH 23, 2017 • BUZZ • THE QUEENS COURIER 51 dining out Photo: Suzanne Monteverdi/THE COURIER The Crown Room opens on Bayside’s Bell Blvd. BY SUZANNE MONTEVERDI [email protected]/@smont76 Th ere’s a new bar hoping to reign over Bayside. Th e Crown Room, located at 39-17 Bell Blvd., the former home of Beer Belly’s, is offi cially open for business. Longtime Bayside residents and friends Jena Jensen, a partner, and Pam Schon, who owns the bar, worked together on the sleek new bar and lounge concept. “We wanted something that sounded more elevated,” Jensen said of the bar’s name. “And we played around with how the name looked once it was in a logo, how we wanted the logo to feel.” Jensen explained that Schon also owns Bar None in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan. Collaboratively, the duo decided to bring a taste of Manhattan to their hometown. “While a lot of the places on Bell Boulevard are great, just to us, it felt like a lot of the same,” Jensen said. “So we wanted to have something in our neighborhood … that felt a little bit more elevated than everywhere else in the neighborhood. Where people could have cocktails, drinks, good food, good company.” Jensen and Schon worked to make sure the interior of the space matched its noble title. Th e two-fl oor, two bar location was completely redesigned with a darker color palette. Th e walls and fl ooring are slate black and guests can fi nd eye-catching vintage pieces, like comfortable armchairs and a chest repurposed into a table, in the upstairs space. Bar-goers can also take snapshots in a photo booth, which is emblazoned with Th e Crown Room logo. Th e bar and lounge features a constantly changing and expanding selection of beer, wine and signature cocktails, with names like “Face Punch,” “Coco-Loco” and namesake, “Th e Crown.” “We’ll always have a drink of the week; a specialty cocktail of the week,” bartender Lear Dahl added. “Th e most recent is Poison Apple.” Employing her love of cooking, Jensen developed the bar’s food menu, which features items like buttermilk chicken tenders, pepper jack sticks and short rib and brisket sliders, which are all made to order. Th e upstairs area is open on Th ursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and features a full bar and a DJ, Jensen explained. It can also be rented out for private parties. Th e spot also features happy hour seven days a week until 8 p.m. Coming soon are alcohol-infused milkshakes and Sunday brunch, which will feature unique drinks, food and DJ music. “We really wanna be all-inclusive,” Jensen said. “And I feel like that’s why we put so much time and eff ort into making sure that we had a wine list that we cared about; cocktails that we cared about; and a food menu that was all made in house. I think we’re for everybody.” Th e Crown Room will hold a grand opening celebration in the beginning of next month.
