Schneps Media is proud to
announce that Courier Life
has named Zachary Gewelb
as the Brooklyn papers’ new
editor-in-chief.
Gewelb is coming
over from Queens,
where he served for a
year as editor-in-chief of
Schneps Media’s
TimesLedger Newspapers.
In addition to serving
as the top editor of the four
Courier Life newspapers
in the borough: the Park
Slope Courier, Mill–Marine
Courier, Bay News, and
Brooklyn Graphic, Gewelb
will also oversee the editorial
operations of the
Brooklyn Paper.
“Zach has the experience,
passion and leadership to
continue to grow our reach
throughout Brooklyn with
award-winning content,”
said CEO and co-publisher
Joshua Schneps. “He has
proven to be a great leader of
the TimesLedger group and
we are thrilled to have him
take on the role as editor-inchief
in Brooklyn.”
Gewelb, 26, fi rst joined
TimesLedger in December
2016 to manage the
newsroom and run the its
website. He also served as
sports editor and entertainment
editor while overseeing
the paper’s layout and
design operations.
Gewelb will take over
for Anthony Rotunno, both
as editor-in-chief and as cohost
of Brooklyn Paper Radio.
He will oversee the editorial
team in its print and
digital operations, with a focus
on growing the latter by
expanding online coverage
and social-media presence
in order to deliver hyper-local
news to even more readers
around Kings County.
“I am thrilled for the opportunity
to serve as the editor
in-chief for the Brooklyn
Paper and Courier Life
publications,” Gewelb said.
“I look forward to maintaining
the paper’s high
standard of excellence and
contributing to the phenomenal
hyperlocal news
coverage of Brooklyn.”
A graduate of SUNY Oswego,
Gewelb worked at
North Jersey Media Group as
a sports editor before joining
the TimesLedger staff, where
he served as deputy editor for
a year before taking over as
editor-in-chief.
Gewelb made his inaugural
appearance on last
week’s episode of Brooklyn
Paper Radio and said his
main focus will be shining a
light on the people in Brooklyn
whose stories deserve
to be told.
“In community news,
the people are what is most
important, and whether it’s
sports or in the arts, our job
is to highlight those people,”
he said. “I can’t say enough
how excited I am for this opportunity.
I am absolutely
thrilled to be here.”
Gewelb enthusiastically
promised to hit the ground
running, assuring Brooklynites
they can expect
the same style of deeply reported,
hyper-local news to
fi ll the Courier’s pages and
website under his reign.
“We are thrilled to have
Zach, an experienced professional
and an award-winning
journalist, move from
leading our TimesLedger
papers in Queens to the
Brooklyn Paper and Courier
Life group. They will
have a brilliant voice with
his leadership; Brooklyn
is lucky,” said Schneps Media
President and Publisher
Victoria Schneps.
The Brooklyn Paper and
Courier Life newspapers
are a trusted source of news
and opinion in Brooklyn
and will continue to provide
in-depth coverage throughout
the borough.
