MAY 12, 2019, BROOKLYN WEEKLY
Perry’s Diner is celebrating
28 years in business!
Join the party during the
months of May and June, and
indulge with $19.95 dinner and
$12.95 lunch specials.
Dinner features a choice of
tempting entrees that include
shrimp scampi over linguine,
rib steak, pork chops, grilled
chicken, broiled Boston scrod,
and roast turkey, all served
with soup or salad, choice of potato,
vegetable, beverage, and
dessert. What a deal.
Lunch offers tantalizing
possibilities such as baby back
ribs, meatballs over linguine,
eggplant parm, chicken Francese,
cheese ravioli, and pork
chops. Enjoy it with soup, salad,
potato, linguine, or rice. Get a
beverage and dessert, too.
There’s no “secret” to Perry’s
long-term success other
than this: They work hard to
assure that customers receive
quality food and outstanding
customer service. They are especially
known for serving the
freshest seafood, and delicious
steaks, cooked to perfection.
Over the years, patrons
have been able to enjoy scrumptious
lobster and broiled seafood,
all at affordable pricing,
right at this neighborhood establishment.
It’s just as good, if
not better, than what is served
at many fancier restaurants,
and that’s because the diner’s
King Neptune himself — owner
Perry Kokotas — selects what
is brought to the table. Kokotas,
originally from the port town
of Mykonos, culminated oceans
of knowledge as part owner of
the Lobster House in Howard
Beach for 16 years. This was before
swimming out on his own
to open Perry’s Diner.
Lobster arrives at the table
with shells cracked, making it
easy for patrons to scoop out the
tasty meat inside. The waiter
ties a lobster bib around your
neck, so you can dive right in
and enjoy it all.
The dining experience begins
with a complimentary tray
of coleslaw, and even this is several
cuts above the usual fare
— crisp, rather than drowned
in mayo. Scrumptious pickles,
a chickpea salad, and a basket
of soft rolls are also provided.
The menu is a book, with
options galore — filet mignon,
veal chops, all types of burgers,
hot open sandwiches, roast
beef, cutlets, fried chicken, paella,
and lots of seafood. Partake
in flounder with lemon
butter sauce, filet of sole with
crabmeat stuffing, shrimp
stuffed with crabmeat, fried
scallops, and seafood combination
plates.
Greek specialties include
pork or chicken souvlaki,
served with pita bread and
Greek salad; spinach pie with
Greek salad; gyro sandwiches,
and moussaka. The pleasant atmosphere
of the diner encourages
customers to appreciate
their meals. Order a drink or a
glass of wine, as there is a full
bar. Seating includes booths
and tables, with some counter
seats, too.
The menu offers standard
diner favorites — Reuben sandwiches,
tuna melts, and the
late-night staple, Chinese roast
pork on a garlic roll.
It’s all more than enough to
choose from, but Perry’s goes
the extra step by offering specials
too. One — spinach ravioli
— is served in a delightful
lemon and butter sauce.
Come for a hearty of breakfast
of eggs served with bacon,
ham, sausages, or steak. Select
from a variety of omelets, all
served with potatoes and toast.
There’s French toast, Belgian
waffles, pancakes, muffins, and
more.
Kids have their own menu,
named for sports figures. The
Jeter includes chicken fingers,
fries, Jello or ice cream,
and milk or soda. Order the
Shaq, and the entrée is a hot
dog, while the A-Rod features a
charbroiled hamburger.
Be sure to save room for outstanding
layer cakes, cheesecakes,
lemon meringue pies,
Boston cream pies, strawberry
shortcake, apple turnovers,
rice pudding, floats, and malted
milk. A selection of seasonable
fruits — sliced strawberries,
honey dew, and cantaloupe —
is served with a sheet of vanilla
ice cream over the top, and
that’s been sprinkled with cinnamon.
Delicious.
