These kids are ready to hang!
A handful of tykes got crafty at a
Park Slope art studio on Dec. 9, where
they created their own Christmas
and Hanukkah ornaments at an adorable
event that gave the youngsters a
chance to put their stamp on the holidays,
according to the studio’s owner.
“The kids are just old enough to
understand what they’re going to be
used for, and seemed really excited to
hang them up,” said Valeen Bhat, who
runs Private Picassos at 237 Fifth
Ave. between President and Carroll
streets.
The tots, who were mostly between
3-and-4-years-old, received hollow
bulbs that they fi lled with colorful
doodads including yarn, feathers,
and pompoms.
The little ornament makers then
topped off their baubles with glitter,
glue, and other arts-and-crafts accouterments,
while Bhat employed some
tricks of the trade she learned after
more than a decade in the neighborhood
to ensure the youngsters didn’t
leave behind a merry mess to clean
up.
“We try to set things up in this
workshop so the kids can have free
range of what they’re doing, but also
limit how much of a mess they can
make,” said Bhat. “We’ve been around
for 13 years, we know how to deal.”
DID IT THEMSELVES!: (From left) Meghan Frank and her daughter
Frances Rogers worked together to create some new ornaments for
their family collection. Tots as young as 2-years-old came out to
handcraft holiday trinkets with help from their parents and the professionals
at Private Picassos in Park Slope. Kseniya Ivnitskaya and
Zoe showed off their creation. Photos by Caroline Ourso
