Gov. Cuomo allows Bahamian students to move to NY

Senator Kevin Parker, who
represents Brooklyn’s 21st
Senate District, that encompasses
sections of Flatbush,
East Flatbush, Midwood, Ditmas
Park, Kensington, Windsor
Terrace and Park Slope,
thanked Governor, Andrew
M. Cuomo for his leadership
and forward thinking, by
allowing students from The
Bahamas to relocate in New
York.
“I am proud of Governor
Andrew Cuomo for his leadership
and forward thinking
by allowing students from
the Bahamas affected by
Hurricane Dorian to reposition
themselves here in New
York State,” said Sen. Parking,
who referred to the Sept.
1 Hurricane Dorian, that
destroyed the Grand Bahama
and Abaco islands, as the
reason for this gesture.
In a recent statement to
Caribbean Life, Sen. Parker
said, “I applaud Governor
Cuomo for understanding
the hardships that have been
plagued upon our neighbors
in the Caribbean and putting
forth ready action to help
those, some of whom their
entire life have been affected,
the opportunity to continue

their education at a SUNY
school.”
“Governor Andrew Cuomo
announced that the State
University of New York would
offer in-state tuition for the
2019-20 academic year to
students from the Bahamas
who have been displaced by
Hurricane Dorian,” said Sen.
Parker, a lifelong Brooklyn
resident.
The politician who has the

Senate Committee on Energy
and Telecommunications,
and on the Senate Standing
Committees on Finance;
Rules; Alcoholism & Substance
Abuse; Insurance;
and Banks, just concluded
his twelfth annual harvest
fest, where 1000 backpacks
were handed out.
The politician, who introduced
legislation affording
student-athletes compensation,
is also instrumental
in giving college bound
students an opportunity to
select prom outfits at his
annual prom dress give away,
in partnership with agencies
in Brooklyn.
