EUROPEAN CHIC Joe is a retiree living in Astoria. I loved his heavy metal band jacket. Fashion has no age limit, kids. BY RUTHIE DARLING @ruthiedarling On the streets of Astoria this month, I saw two trends appearing. The first was a cool, European look made up of a palette of muted grays, browns and greens. Earthy and chic, oversized and effortlessly ontrend. But there were also some fashion rebels out and about, like retiree Joe in this punk-influenced denim look and little Kenzy, who combined metallics with rainbow leggings. Understated meets overstated. We're all about the contradictions here in Queens. STREET STYLE A 6 JANUARY 2 0 1 7 Holly was on her way into Manhattan, where she works promoting emerging brands. I was in love with her pants that were also, somehow, a skirt. (Spants!?) Joanna is originally from Greece. "Where else? This is Astoria after all!" she quipped. I was struck by her Parisian-inspired ensemble of ankleskimming black pants, ballet slippers and a brown fur jacket. Effortlessly chic. Agnesa is originally from Kosovo, but now resides in Astoria. I was coveting her oversized gray coat that looked so cosy, but also stylish the way it was thrown on and belted.
