Keynote Discussion Redstone Theater 12:45PM - 1:45PM Carl Weisbrod NYC Department of City Planning & NYC City Planning Commission Carl Weisbrod, Director of the New York City Department of City Planning and Chairman of the New York City Planning Commission, has more than 35 years of experience serving the people of New York. As a member of the de Blasio Administration, Weisbrod is charged with creating land use policies to promote an equitable, resilient, sustainable and economically vibrant city. Weisbrod has been a key player in the development and implementation of Housing New York, the Mayor’s affordable housing initiative, which includes the recent enactment of Mandatory Inclusionary Housing (MIH) and Zoning for Quality and Affordability (ZQA). MIH establishes the most rigorous zoning requirements for affordable housing of any major U.S. city and ZQA is the most important revision of the city’s Zoning Resolution since 1961. Weisbrod oversaw the redevelopment of Times Square under Mayors Koch and Dinkins and Governor Mario Cuomo, was the founding President of the New York City Economic Development Corporation under Mayor Dinkins, the founding President of the Alliance for Downtown New York, and President of Trinity Real Estate, a division of historic Trinity Church. Elizabeth Lusskin LIC Partnership Elizabeth Lusskin is President of LIC Partnership and Executive Director of the LIC BID. She joined LIC Partnership after serving as Chief of Staff/VP Strategic Initiatives at NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering, expanding its incubator and entrepreneurship efforts. Previously, she served as Deputy Commissioner, NYC SBS, General Counsel, Downtown Alliance, and Legislative Counsel, NYS Office of Federal Affairs. Melva Miller Deputy Queens Borough President Melva Miller was appointed Deputy Borough President in 2015 after serving as Director of Economic Development since 2007 for the Queens Borough President’s Office. Miller leads and supports the economic development agenda for the Borough President’s Office, from business and job development, to housing to quality-of-life to tourism and culture. Jimmy Van Bramer New York City Council Majority Leader A lifelong resident of western Queens, Jimmy Van Bramer was elected to the NYC Council on November 3, 2009. On January 22nd, 2014 he was elected Majority Leader of the NYC Council, the second highest ranking member of the legislative body. Majority Leader Van Bramer also serves as Chair of the Committee on Cultural Affairs and Libraries. Special Guests: Michael Gianaris New York State Senator A lifelong Queens resident, Senator Mike Gianaris is proud to represent some of NYC’s most exciting neighborhoods in the State Senate, including LIC, Astoria, Sunnyside, Woodside, Ridgewood and Woodhaven.
