without the stress of finding a good
place to do it. Whether your roommate
is driving you crazy or you just need
a change of scenery, check out these
places next time all of your professors
assign papers on the same day.

The NoMad Hotel
Library
Skip the tourist-filled public library in Midtown
for this little-known spot. The NoMad Hotel Library
is open to the public until 4 p.m., but after that it’s
reserved for guests only. This two-story space is
the perfect quiet spot for reading.
The Drama Book Shop
More than a typical bookstore, the Drama Book
Shop won a Tony for its contribution to the theatre
community. Located in the Theater District, it’s the
perfect place to pick up a new play or get some
writing done.
General Society Library
The General Society of Mechanics and
Tradesmen of the City of New York may be a
mouthful, but its library is a great place to study.
Also located in Midtown, the space has plenty of
tables and a huge skylight.
Poets House
The Poets House has the largest independent
poetry collection available to the public in
the country. With lots of places to sit and a
contemporary feel, it’s an ideal homework spot.

St. Luke in the Fields
Garden
The garden at St. Luke in the Fields covers more
than two thirds of an acre in the West Village. Curl
up on a bench or find a spot on the grass to get
some homework done amidst a wide variety of
flowers and other plants.
Brooklyn Bridge Park
Right on the East River, Brooklyn Bridge Park
has a beautiful view of Manhattan. Extending
more than a mile along the edge of Brooklyn, it’s
somewhere that will always have a place to sit and
study.
Elevated Acre
Elevated Acre is a hidden park right in the
middle of the Financial District. At three stories up,
it’s a great place to escape the bustle of the city
and get some work done.
The Ludlow Hotel
Garden
You don’t have to be a guest at this fancy hotel
on the Lower East Side to have access to their
garden. There’s also indoor seating in the bar and
lobby, making it a perfect study spot for all kinds
of weather.

Cafe Jax
Cafe Jax is a cozy place to grab some coffee and
do some homework. Located on the Upper West
Side, the cafe also has tea and baked goods.
The Bean
Coffee isn’t the only thing served at The Bean;
they also have a juice and smoothie bar, vegan
options and more. Plus, the coffee shop has free
wifi and is open until midnight, making it a great
study place. The Bean has five locations in Union
Square, East Village and Williamsburg.
Gotan
Gotan serves up coffee and other drinks as well
as sandwiches and salads in Tribeca, Midtown and
Williamsburg. With communal tables and free wifi,
it’s a great spot to get work done over lunch.
Blank Slate
Blank Slate is part coffeeshop, part restaurant,
where you can get everything from avocado toast
to popcorn to wine. There’s lots of table space,
and the NoMad restaurant is open until 9 on
weeknights, making it a perfect study spot.
