CHIEF INVESTIGATOR
The Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor is seeking a veteran law enforcement professional
for the position of the Chief Investigator.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Oversee the operation and performance of the Detective Investigator's Squad
• Manage and supervise Senior Detective Investigators' caseloads and assignments
• Conduct background checks and interviews for prospective Detective Investigators
• Work closely with the Detective Investigators to locate and secure victims and witnesses
needed for various court and trial procedures
• Work closely with multiagency task force groups and with other federal, state and local
enforcement agencies
• Hands on, direct oversight of all aspects of sophisticated narcotics enforcement operations
Education Requirements:
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and ten years of full-time progressively
responsible law enforcement experience; five of which MUST have been in an administrative,
managerial, executive or supervisory capacity; or
2. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. May consider oversight of complex
investigations or comparable position with a government law enforcement agency for substitution
of a bachelors degree, but must have substantial college level course work.
Qualifications:
• Extensive paid police enforcement and investigative work as a police officer, as defined in
CPL§1.20, within the State of New York
• Comprehensive experience in a supervisory capacity in one or more of the following areas:
organized crime, narcotics trafficking, money laundering, violent crimes and gangs
• Ten (10) years or more of extensive managerial experience in administration including hiring,
evaluating, counseling and disciplining staff
• Ability to oversee highly sensitive criminal investigations
• Experience in supervising narcotics, gun trafficking and violent crimes investigations
• Ability to work independently, managing deadlines and adapting to changes in workflow
• Strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy
• Excellent organization, communication, writing and problem solving skills
