An egg-celent time was had by all when LeFrak City Maintenance
Services held an Easter Celebration on the great lawn in the Center
Courtyard on March 29. Eggs were decorated, candy was handed out
and the Easter Bunny himself made an appearance, posing for many a photo.

Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day to bring tennis-related fun to Flushing in August
If you’ve got a youngster in the
household who’s a tennis fan —
or, for that matter, any youngster
at all — mark the calendar for August
25. That’s Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day at
the Billie Jean King National Tennis
Center in Flushing Meadows, a daylong
even featuring live music, interactive
games, tennis instruction and
appearances by top tennis players and
recording artists.
There’s a free festival on the
grounds of the tennis center, which
opens at 9:30 a.m. and includes
games, music, activities such as hair
braiding, juggling and face painting,
and a roster of tennis-related activities
including skills competitions, exhibitions
and autograph signings by
top tennis stars.
Attendees can also watch tennis pros
practice for the upcoming US Open at
various points on the grounds.
Then at 1 p.m. there’s a ticketed
event in Arthur Ashe Stadium, which
will include exhibition matches and
musical performances. This year’s
lineup has yet to be announced,
but past performers have included
Shawn Mendes, Justin Bieber, the Jonas
Brothers, Britney Spears and the
Backstreet Boys.

Among the tennis players who’ve
taken part in past years are Venus and
Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal, Roger
Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael
Nadal, and Maria Sharapova. They’ve
been joined by celebrity attendees including
Alec Baldwin, Nick Cannon,
John Cena, Ellen DeGeneres, Will
Ferrell, and Michelle Obama.
The event — which each year is
held on the Saturday before the start
of the US Open — honors the legacy
of Arthur Ashe, the first African-
American man to win the US Open
and Wimbledon. A lifelong activist
with a commitment to social justice,
Ashe was determined to shed tennis’
image as a sport for the rich, and
bring the game to kids in disadvantaged
communities. Founded in 1993,
Kids’ Day raises money for programs
that offer free or low-cost tennis lessons
to thousands of kids each year.
Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day, August 25,

National Tennis Center in Flushing
