High-quality ingredients at
Mediterranean Seafood & Grill
BY PEARL ADLER
I can never get enough of Mediterranean
restaurants, and I was delighted by
Mediterranean Seafood & Grill in Great
Neck. Th e new owner is passionate about
providing the fi nest quality ingredients to
the foods he serves.
Th e airy space with white wash walls
and murals reminded me of my days on
the Greek Islands where I relished the
scene.
Th e restaurant just received permission
from the town to have outside dining at
its corner location.
Here, the well-spaced tables off er linen
napkins and tablecloths, and we were
served by attentive and informed waiters.
Th e menu off ers ocean-grown salmon,
free-range chicken and grass-fed beef, all
free of antibiotics and steroids and non-
GMO certifi ed. Th e new owner’s daughter
is a nutritionist, and he has decided to off er
his patrons only the best food on the market.
“It may cost me more to buy the best of
every ingredient, but I believe it will come
back to me with satisfi ed diners,” he said.
He is right: on the midweek night that
I was there, almost all the tables were
taken!
We began our meal with a selection
from the “small plates” off erings. My
favorite was the grilled octopus that
was tender and tasty with just the right
crunchiness.
Th e spinach pie had crunchy phyllo
stuff ed with spinach and feta cheese.
Delicious!
We also had a serving of hummus and
baba ganoush served with crunchy pita
slices.
Being a soup lover, I was impressed with
the well-seasoned seafood bisque stocked
with lobster, crabmeat and shrimp. At
only $7, it is not to be missed!
Th ere are multiple salad off erings, of
course. Th e classic Greek salad can have
10 toppings available.
All the entrees are served with salad, or
soup and basmati rice, roasted potatoes or
bulgar and seasonal vegetables.
Th ere are multiple meat and seafood
choices, including my favorites: whole
branzino and chicken gyro. For pasta lovers,
they are available in family-size portions.
For the burger lover you can build
your own accompanied by French fries or
sweet potato fries — yummy!
But leave room for dessert.
Th ere is an amazing Greek tartufo that
is jaw dropping delicious and a bowl
fi lled with a huge serving of chocolate
and vanilla scoops of ice cream in a crispy
phyllo dough topped by honey syrup,
almonds and mounds of whipped cream.
Wicked! But irresistible...
Try it and you, too, will love it. It’s open
seven days a week for lunch and dinner,
with a prix-fi xe brunch on Sundays
for $18.95, including three courses and a
cocktail, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
