WWW.BROOKLYN-USA.ORG BROOKLYN NEWS 23
Six months after its
long-awaited relaunch,
good reviews keep coming
in about the new Brooklyn-
USA.org, Borough President
Adams’s digital community
portal. It has long been his
aim to create an online destination
that is accessible,
engaging and informative
for Brooklynites, and the
initial rollout of this updated
website for Brooklyn
Borough Hall has taken
great strides in achieving
that mission. Since its May
1st debut, the site has seen
over 54,000 visitors and had
over 151,000 pages viewed.
Brooklyn-USA.org has
been designed to be a onestop
shop for resources
across the borough and
beyond that anyone can
easily utilize. For starters,
unlike the previous iteration,
the relaunched website is
mobilized for use on handheld
devices like smartphones
and tablets; with
29 percent of views coming
via mobile device, it is clear
that this has been a popular
upgrade. The site enables
magnification for visitors to
increase the font size for
easier viewing, which has
been of particular use for
seniors and people with disabilities.
Additionally, in keeping with
Borough President Adams’s focus on
communicating with all Brooklynites,
especially the 47 percent of Brooklyn
that speaks a language other than
English at home, there is translation
ability for over 90 languages.
One of the most popular features
of the new and improved Brooklyn-
USA.org are the maps, which provide
updated information on everything
in the borough from bike lanes to
green markets, from food pantries to
senior centers, from hospitals to public
schools, as well as from police precincts
to minority and women-owned
business enterprises (M/WBEs). The
section also includes a plotting of
every site that Borough President
Adams has supported through his
capital budget in the first two years of
his administration.
Borough President Adams created
two sections on the site for visitors to
learn about what is happening around
Brooklyn. His Community Calendar
includes all events organized or sponsored
by his office, as well as meetings
from the borough’s community
boards and police precinct councils.
Organizations that want to advertise
Brooklyn’s Online!
their comings and goings are encouraged
to post on his interactive Bulletin
Board, which is updated biweekly; to
date, the board has had close to 200
postings.
Of course, Brooklyn-USA.org has
information on all the basic details
one would expect. Pages that are frequently
visited include biographies of
Borough President Adams and Deputy
Borough President Reyna, a rundown
of the Brooklyn Borough Hall team
and facts on the building, listings for
the borough’s 18 community boards,
as well as information on the office’s
Constituent Assistance Center and
Topographical Bureau.
Borough President Adams is
continuing to pursue new ways to
improve Brooklyn-USA.org. Features
that his team is working on include a
BK Seniors birthday photo gallery, a
revamped Bulletin Board with additional
functionality, and a community
blog for long-form updates from
Brooklyn Borough Hall and others.
He encourages all to stay connected
with the office, especially through his
paperless announcements and social
media, and to provide feedback on
what they would like to see from the
site in the future.
