The 18-wheeler behemoths have been blocking Seventh Avenue outside Forum Supermarket, say frustrated drivers who find traversing the area even more difficult ever since the food store opened. During the morning rush hour, said one motorist, traffic is backed up as much as six blocks because of the delivery trucks outside the market. “Traffic has been backed up ever since the supermarket opened because of trucks parking in one of the lanes,” the Dyker resident complained. “It takes five to 10 minutes to drive one block, and you have traffic backed up even getting off the Gowanus.” “It’s a nightmare,” said another. “Trucks are parked there all the time. We live on 65th Street near 12th Avenue, and we sometimes drive along 75th Street to get home. We have to leave the house half an hour early to get to the expressway.” The 68th Precinct has sent out officers to warn the truck drivers, who initially moved to 65th Street for a couple of days, according to Captain Joseph Hayward, the precinct’s commanding officer, before being seen back in front of the store. “It’s definitely slowing traffic and blocking one of the lanes,” said Hayward, who noted that the precinct’s community affairs officers have been receiving complaints about the situation. “They are in a no standing zone, and they have been put on notice.” The supermarket manager did not respond to a request for comment.
