WWW.QNS.COM RIDGEWOOD TIMES MAY 25, 2017 3 CK Campus W h e r e t h e c o m m u n i t y c o m e s t o g e t h e r MPUS MPUS CK CAC CK CAhosts first MVP Cheerleading This past weekend, the Christ the King (CTK) Campus held the inaugural Middle Village Prep (MVP) Charter Cheerleading Competition with the help of the Christ the King High School Cheerleading team, hosting five teams from Brooklyn and Queens including the Saint Margaret’s Dragons, the Greater Ridgewood Youth Club Pride, the P.S. 307 Brooklyn Diamonds, the I.S. 77 Hawks, and the Middle Village Prep Charter School. The CTK High School Cheerleading team not only volunteered as hosts, but acted as spotters for all the visiting teams. MVP Coach Leeanne DeLuca credits the entire CTK Campus community for their time and effort at the competition. “Everyone here had a hand in the success of this event,” she said. “The Christ the King girls enjoy helping and sharing tips with the younger girls.” In the finals of the competition, the judges awarded the Brooklyn Diamonds the first two top spots — with their junior varsity team taking 2nd place — while Middle Village Prep finished in 3rd place. Coach DeLuca is a 2008 CTK High School graduate, and has been involved in cheerleading from an early age. She came back to her alma mater as an assistant coach in 2010, and was named the Head Cheerleading Coach in 2014. Coach DeLuca is happy to have one of her former Christ the King High School cheerleaders now on her MVP and CTK staff as an assistant, Christ the King Campus Competition Her CTK High School cheer squad can be seen at many athletic and community events around Middle Village. The team cheers for the football team and CTK High School’s nationally recognized basketball programs in the fall and winter before moving into their own cheering school’s teams are already competing at high levels. The varsity girls’ basketball team currently holds a 2-2 record, picking up wins in the first two games of the season, and now they are looking to finish the season with a winning record next week; field team had a strong showing in all of the meets they competed in this season. The charter school’s varsity soccer program is gearing up for their first game after competing in several intrasquad scrimmages. The volleyball club team enjoyed their inaugural season under Coach Nichole Clemente. The team worked on the fundamentals of volleyball while also learning about sportsmanship and team building. The MVP Cheerleading Competition was a great addition to the spring athletic season. Not only giving the MVP cheerleaders the opportunity to compete but other local squads as well. “We at the CK Campus are proud to host events that bring our community together.” says Michael Michel, President.
