BY DENISE ROMANO [email protected] With over 1,700 items in its inventory, Long’s Wine and Liquors is one of the biggest and best places to buy your spirits in the Bay Ridge area. The store was owned by the Long brothers from 1983 until 2008 when the Hamilton sisters took over. Heather Hamilton is a former wine buyer turned store owner and her sister, Shasta Hamilton, is the manager. Long’s specializes in Italian, Greek and New York wines. “We have mainstream brands as well as hard to find boutique items,” explained owner Hamilton. “We are constantly curating stock to find the best values in each area. We like to keep prices competitive – within a few dollars of warehouse stores.” Long’s hosts wine tastings every Friday evening between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. and on Saturdays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Customers can sign up for the weekly newsletter for tasting notices and special coupons on the store’s website, longswines.com. “We constantly train our staff to keep them educated,” Hamilton said, adding that she likes to focus on a good BROOKLYN MEDIA GROUP/Photo by Denise Romano selection and great customer service. Hamilton is also active in the Bay Ridge community. Long’s is a member of the Fifth Avenue Business Improvement District and is founder of the Bay Ridge Storefront Art Walk, which will kick off its fourth year next month. “We are a big supporter of New York wines,” Hamilton said, adding that she also carries liquor by Breuckelen Distilling and Greenhook Ginsmith, such as gin and whiskey, which are made in Sunset Park and Greenpoint respectively. “Most of the world drinks their own product except for us,” Hamilton explained. “There’s a renaissance of New York-made liquors. We encourage customers to explore gins in their own backyard.” Long’s also delivers locally to zip codes 11209, 11220 and 11228. Deliveries are free for orders of $40 or more and can be called in or ordered online.
