St. Edmund Prep students excel at Model Congress During the weekend of February 23 through 26, the St. Edmund Prep Model Congress team headed to Boston, Massachusetts for the third consecutive year to compete in a government simulation run by the Harvard Model Congress. The school’s team, which consisted of eight young men and four young women, competed against 1,500 other students from schools around the nation and even a few from Eastern Europe and one school from Greece. The students were responsible for all aspects of parliamentary procedure, bill writing and bill enactment in their respective committees for the House and/or Senate. At the end of the four days, committee chairpersons selected honorable mentions and best delegates. The best delegates received a gavel which is engraved and extremely prestigious, as only 70 in total are given out. St. Edmund Prep Model Congress received three of those gavels, won by Chris Healy, Jared Rios and John McCarthy. The school also had two honorable mentions in Jack Harkin and Vincent Carucci.
