The Brooklyn Art Spring Event's (BASE) Immersive Art and Auction Experience will be held at Sunset’s Industry City. The event, whose proceeds will support art education at P.S. 295, 330 18th Street, is hosted by Danger One! Studio and slated to bring over 100 artists that have had their work at the Guggenheim Museum and the Museum of Modern Art together for a day of celebrating art, music, drinks and more. "The event is very much an art experience, starting with the layout of the space, which is done by architects that work on really high profile projects,” said one of the event organizers Claire Goldwitz. “The space itself almost becomes an art element itself. And then within the space, there’s going to be an art installation by a number of different artists.” Goldwitz also mentioned other festivities taking place. “Art is going to be made available for sale,” she said. “There’s going to be a live music component including one of the drummers for Enrique Iglesias, Gilmar Gomes, who is going to be doing an art installation with music. He’s going to be jamming with our deejay, DJ J Nyce. There will potentially be other artists as well as a raffle provided by Bed, Bath and Beyond and coffee from Illy.” Attendees are going to get a big bang for their bucks, according to organizers. “It’s going to be an amazing event,” Goldwitz added. “For a price of a couple of drinks that you would get at a bar, it feels like something I would want to be doing." Although the art event is its fifth iteration, this is the first time it has expanded. “Up until now, it had been kept small between artists,” Goldwitz said. "I was astonished by the artwork and I thought this is something people from the outside would be interested in so I approached Industry City and talked about the project and they got really excited so we blew it up this year.” According to Goldwitz, the spacious venue will add to the experience. “Industry City is such an exciting space and they have a lot of cutting edge artists and manufacturers and great brands,” she said. “It felt like the right creative space. It’s gorgeous and has huge windows and 15,000 square feet.” Attendees can expect something for everything. “It’s great for someone from the outside, to see Industry City and all it has to offer, but also attend a special event where everyone feels invested and it’s like going backstage a bit,” Goldwitz said. “You see the stuff you wouldn’t see in ordinary commercial shows. The pricing of the art is going to be amazing. The pieces have been majorly discounted." Established artists slated to attend include Betsy Damon and Joyce Kozloff; emerging artists include SunHe Hong and Katherine Kane. “It’s nice to have a show where there’s a little bit for everyone in terms of dimensions, colors, textures, messages,” Goldwitz said. "It’s a huge range. Visually, it will be very appealing. There are some art installations that are going to wow people. When I go to an art gallery, it’s like ‘okay, here’s the stuff, you have to be quiet.' This is a celebration that’s going to be an experience, in part due to the work done to the space and the installation. There are going to be food and drinks. I think it’s going to be a fun event, no matter why you’re going, with friends or as an art investor." The Brooklyn Art Spring Event will take place Saturday, April 1 from 6-10 p.m. at Industry City, 274 37th Street. Early bird tickets are $35, and regular tickets are $50.
