Each year, Industry City (IC), Brooklyn Army Terminal (BAT) and Liberty View Industrial Plaza have been growing the neighborhood's business presence. Whether it's retail, companies moving their manufacturing to the area, entertainment, or helping youngsters find employment with programs, the rapid growth has been impressive. Over at IC, it was recently announced that ABC Carpet & Home will be moving in. The company will consolidate its Bronx and Hackensack operations in Industry City’s Building 19, 168 39th Street, which is also home to the Brooklyn Nets’ practice facility. IC also announced that it had added Gap Inc. to its growing list of tenants with a 20,000-square-foot photo and design studio at the waterfront property’s Building 4, 88 35th Street, joining other fashion and design companies such as West Elm, Design Within Reach, Malia Mills, Material Wrld and The Line at the complex AbelCine, a provider of products and services for production, broadcast and new media industries also has moved into IC with its new development center. The center features an engineering lab where products are designed to address specific technical needs within the industry. Serious Eats, a website focused on celebrating and sharing food enthusiasm through recipes, will also operate out of the Sunset Park complex. It's upgrading from a 1,600-square-foot space in Chinatown to a 9,000 square-foot space in IC, including a photo studio and test kitchen. There are also tons of new happenings at BAT which has expanded its food manufacturing experience with a hub within its annex. The New York City Economic Development Corporation announced this past summer that the entire 55,000-square-foot space will serve up to 10 growing food manufacturing companies and marked the grand opening of the first small food manufacturer to expand to the annex, MOMO Dressing. BAT also welcomed Techshop, a membership-based, do-it-yourself workshop and fabrication studio, providing access to a vibrant community of creative makers and more than $1 million worth of equipment, tools and software. Liberty View Industrial Plaza got a treat towards the end of 2016 as it opened its long anticipated shopping center with a Brooklyn vibe, including Bed Bath & Beyond, Face Values, buybuy BABY and Cost Plus World Market. One thing that makes the center unique is the dining area which features tons of local eats. Bay Market Kitchen has already become a favorite among foodies. Those who are in sweet tooth mode can enjoy treats from Sweet & Savory Waffles & Soft Serve. Sak's Off Fifth also opened its doors late last year at Liberty View. The Sunset location is approximately 31,000 square feet. Photo courtesy of Industry City An aerial view of Industry City.
