Dearest wife, sister, mother and grandmother, Anita was completely devoted to her family. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Joseph K. Melleby and her daughter, Dr. Paula McKeown and was the adored grandmother to Nancy Louise McKeown. Anita is also survived by her brother, Matty DePaola, as well as many nieces and nephews. Anita was born on December 27, 1934 in Brooklyn, to her parents Louise (nee Gramaglia) and Marty DePaola. She graduated from P.S. 104 in Brooklyn and went on to become a beautician and cosmetologist. For many years, Anita worked with her father in his thriving Bay Ridge beauty salon. Married in 1955 to Joseph K. Melleby, they continued to live in Bay Ridge as they raised their daughter. Anita worked at the law fi rm of Cullen and Dykman in downtown Brooklyn for nine years during the 1970s and 1980s. She went on to work at Merrill Lynch and the New York Stock Exchange in the 1980s before retiring. Anita was a selfl ess and dedicated caregiver to her family, and enjoyed excursions with her family to the Catskills and Long Island. In Loving Memory of Joseph Atalla February 13, 1994 – May 2, 2016 I remember you waking up to go to work. I told you not to go that day because you had to study for your midterm. Your answer was, “Mom, I’m coming home early.” I also told you to use the car instead of the motorcycle, and you answered, “Mom, don’t worry, this is my last ride.” I then blessed you, gave you a hug and a kiss, and I heard the last “I love you, Mom” from you. I wish you had listened to me. I wish I had kept you in my arms, and hadn’t let go. An hour later, I received a phone call. The caller ID read, “Jamaica Hospital.” I knew you had gotten into an accident; the first thing I asked was if you were okay. The doctor responded, “I am sorry.” The hardest thing I had to hear was that my son had died. Since then, part of my heart died with you. There are no words to describe the pain I will forever feel, from the first day I heard that you passed away, my beautiful son. It’s been a year that I haven’t heard your voice, seen your gorgeous smile, and just seen your face. Every day has been a nightmare since you left me. You’ll always be in my heart, Joey. I will always be proud of the person you grew up to be, and I will never forget your beautiful heart, smile and soul. I was not prepared for your death, Joey. I will never forget you. You are my angel. I know you are watching over me. Please continue to do so. Also, watch over your father and sisters. I love you, my sweet baby. You are out of my sight, but forever in my mind.
