POLICE BEAT Compiled by Jaime DeJesus ATTEMPTED BATH BEACH CARJACKING HAS COPS LINKING INCIDENT TO TWO PRIOR CRIMES BY MEAGHAN MCGOLDRICK [email protected] The duo police are looking for in connection with a mid-January robbery and carjacking at Senator Street and Fifth Avenue in Bay Ridge, as well as an earlier incident on the border of Victorian Flatbush, might have just struck again with help from a third perp. According to police, at around 6:30 a.m. on Monday, February 6, one of the men approached a 31-year-old man as he walked to a van parked in front of 1844 Bath Avenue, placed him in a rear choke-hold and threw him to the ground. The perp then took the victim's cell phone, wallet and a bag that contained close to $20,000 in cash and checks. A second perp then approached a 22-year-old man who'd been sitting in the driver's seat of the parked van and attempted to pull him out of the vehicle, at which time a third individual pulled up in front of the parked van in a black four door sedan, blocking it from moving. The two other perps eventually joined the driver inside the sedan and all three fled eastbound on Bath Avenue. The first perp is described as a black man, in his 30s, who is bald and has facial hair. The second is said to be a black man with a black skull cap and a dark colored jacket. No description was given for the driver. The trio's getaway car was described as a black four door Nissan Maxima with paint fading from its hood and the top of the vehicle. This incident has been labeled the third of its kind by cops, who have linked the two other robberies, one in Bay Ridge and another on the border of Victorian Flatbush. The Bay Ridge incident occurred on Monday, January 16, when a 62-year-old local businessman was victimized after a pair of vans blocked his 2013 Chevy in at about 9:15 a.m. According to the police, first a person in a light colored minivan drove in front of the victim’s car to stop him from passing. Then, a second white van pulled up behind the victim’s car. At that point, cops say, the victim was forcibly removed from his car by a person who came up to his vehicle on foot, and who threw him to the ground before taking off in the victim’s car, accompanied by the two vehicles that had blocked the victim’s way. While the victim’s car was recovered 12 blocks away, $9,000 in checks and more than $12,000 in cash were missing. Cops said at the time that the incident did not appear to be a random act as the victim had also been robbed about two months earlier. In the incident that took place at Coney Island Avenue and Slocum Place, in the 70th Precinct, on Monday, November 28 at about 6:05 a.m., the 62-year-old victim was held up by two men as he was about to get into his car. Cops say that one of the assailants held a gun to the victim’s head and demanded his money, while the other took keys, a cell phone, $5,000 in cash and $40,000 in checks from the victim’s van. The duo then got into an SUV being driven by a third person and took off. In those incidents, one of the assailants was described as a black man between 25 and 35 years of age, and the second, a Hispanic man, approximately 5’6” tall, in his 20s. A light colored Honda Odyssey and a white Ford Passenger van were being sought for those incidents.
