LOOKING FOR SUMMER FUN IN SUNSET PARK? INDUSTRY CITY SUMMER SPREE HAS YOU COVERED. More info on back cover. LOOKING FOR A JOB? STARTING OR GROWING A BUSINESS? Sunset Park’s Innovation Lab – a first of its kind employment and entrepreneurship center – has what you need. Here’s what your neighbors are saying in their own words: As a business student at Brooklyn College, life-long Sunset Parker Lily Zhen, came to Innovation Lab looking to be part of today’s economy. First as a summer intern at FilmRise, a film and television distributor based at Industry City, and now as a full-time employee, Lily found what she was looking for. “I was always thinking that in order to get any opportunities, I would probably have to move out of Sunset Park. Industry City helped place me in an internship at FilmRise, and after I finished my schooling, they hired me fulltime.” Buenos Aires native and Brooklynite Maria Castelli, has been designing and producing her leather handbags out of a creative workshop at Industry City since 2012. Through an Innovation Lab business development program, Maria got the support she needed to grow her business. “In our case, the Plan for Growth Program was a game changer. It helped us take a step back and change the way we saw (and later operated) “Maria Castelli.” It could not have been more timely, as we were at the point where we had to transition from being a loose creative endeavor into a real business. The Plan for Growth Program guided us through that process. I strongly recommend it.” Sunset Park native Miguel Pacheco, age 35, director of technology programs at Opportunities for Better Tomorrow, has been part of Innovation Lab since day one. Since the opening of Innovation Lab, Miguel has helped train more than 100 young people in website design and coding, valuable skill in today’s economy. “Industry City is no longer the underutilized building complex that it was when I was growing up in Sunset Park. It is now a thriving space with countless opportunities for personal and professional development. I feel very proud to work here at Innovation Lab helping connect my community to jobs at Industry City and in the surrounding neighborhoods.” ARE YOU A COLLEGE STUDENT LOOKING FOR AN INTERNSHIP CLOSE TO HOME THIS SUMMER?
