46 MAY 26 - JUNE 1, 2017 BROOKLYN MEDIA GROUP JV Bonnies earn third seed, advancing to playo s BY JIM DOLAN Hoping to do better than their 9-6 opening day loss to Molloy, the Bonnies faced the Stanners again for the last game of the regular season on the road in Queens. A win was not in the cards for Fontbonne, as the fi rst place 7-3 Stanners dominated the 6-4 Bonnies for an 8-1 loss, sending the Brooklyn team home with a third place seeding for the upcoming playo s. In addition to capturing irst place for the 2017 regular season, the Molloy Stanners even managed to tie formerly league-leading Fontbonne for the most runs scored (113) this season during that last game. In the opening round of the playo s, the third seeded Bonnies dominated the sixth seeded St. Saviour with a 16-2 win, allowing Fontbonne to advance to the semi-fi nal round. The JV’s front line pitcher Brianna Alicandro pitched three scoreless innings with seven strikeouts, while Taylor Romeo closed the game over the next two innings while giving up just two runs. O ensively, Fontbonne got on the board early with three home runs by Alicandro, Nicolette Torani and Christina DeAngelis, coincidentally hit during their fi rst at-bats of the game. With the JV playo s advancing to the semi-fi nal round, the third seeded Bonnies will face second seeded St. Francis Prep while fi h seeded Xaverian with face fi rst seeded Molloy. “So far the girls have brought their A game to the fi eld all season,” said JV Coach Nicole Marinello. “There’s no reason why that A game shouldn’t bring them to the fi nal round,” maintained Marinello.
