Thunderbolt (Luna Park) It’s back! And it’s more thrilling than ever. Long ago, Coney Island had a roller coaster named the Thunderbolt, a popular wooden coaster to complement the Cyclone. After being torn down many years ago due to lack of usage and decay, the new Luna Park decided to resurrect the name and create a state-of-the-art steel coaster. Although the only thing it has in common with its predecessor is its name, the Thunderbolt still brings the Brooklyn crowd during the summer months. Opened in June 2014 and manufactured by Zamperla for $10 million, the ride includes a 100-foot loop and 2,000 feet of track. It might be a quick ride, but it’sperfect to get the adrenaline going after a long, relaxing day at the beach or a Brooklyn Cyclones game. It may not be as scary as the Cyclone, but it’s nice to see the Brooklyn amusement park have a modern ride for the adults. File photo
